Manufacturers are trying to take over control of your vehicles data,... this would mean they could control where you could take your vehicle for services, and they could charge whatever they want as there would be no competition. This would kill the aftermarket parts industry, and if you think mechanic shops are expensive now.... just wait.... They gather data about your location, driving behavior, vehicle health and more.. If your data is stored on a computer inside your car, you can control who accesses it. But newer cars began wirelessly transmitting data straight to car manufacturers. Also they could track and sell your driving data to 3rd parties without your knowledge or permission. See more
