Hi everyone! Towards the end of December we announced that we will be hosting a writing contest revolving around telling your pet’s story. We will be accepting... 50 entries, each entry fee being $15 dollars. All proceeds from this will go towards future vetting costs and specific veterinary food that is needed in shelter. If you have multiple animals and want to enter multiple you are able to, but the entry fee is required each time. Two winners will be picked and ideally we would like to be able to pick one cat winner and one dog winner, however since we are unable to guarantee that there will be an even amount of cat and dog entries there is a possibility that both winners will be a dog or a cat. Each winner will receive a customized raffle basket, and a gift certificate for a custom 5x7 pet portrait valued at $270 done by the talented Anke Duffy! (Photos of some portraits she has done are in the photo are attached below, and you can view more of her stuff online at ankeoriginals.ca or on Instagram @ankeoriginals) As spots fill we will update the post as necessary so people are aware of how many spots are left. If this is something that you are interested in entering please read the following below carefully to ensure that this is a smooth, fair process for everyone: -Entry opens today on January 4th and closes on January 11th. Judging will begin on January 12th and winners will be announced on February 1st. If all spots fill before January 11th, we will update this original post stating that all spots are filled. -The judging will be done by the APARC staff in a series of 5 rounds. Each judge will start with a set amount of stories and have to pass on a certain amount of stories each round. Judge 1 will pass to judge 2, and judge 2 will pass to judge 3, etc. until the two winners are picked. -What the judges will be looking for: 1. Proper grammar/punctuation, descriptive language 2. Creativity, uniqueness, emotion 3. Times New Roman font, size 14, maximum 2 pages long only *If you want to write from your animal’s point of view you can, or you can write from your own point of view. If you want to write in a series of poems, that is also allowed. The writing style is entirely yours to choose! -To enter, send an e-mail to [email protected] with the subject Writing Contest and please include your name, a contact number and your animal’s name. As e-mails are received, you will receive a confirmation e-mail in response on the same day with details on how to send the entry fee. This way, if there is a huge influx on entries and spots fill too fast, entry fees will not be sent prematurely. Once you receive the confirmation e-mail, you are able to send your story between then and the 11th when you feel it is ready. When you send your story, please send a photo of your animal as well. If you are a chosen winner, the photo that you send attached with the story will be hung on our wall inside shelter among our collection of wall signs and art. -When judging is complete, the two winners will be announced and contacted so we can gather information about your animal to make their customized raffle basket! We are so excited to do this, and hope you guys are too! Good luck, everyone!
