Feed It Forward Pay What You Can Grocery Store, Bakery and Coffee Shop ... June 16, 2018: Feed It Forward will be opening the first pay what you can grocery not only in Canada but in the World! The Feed It Forward Pay What You Can Grocery Store, Bakery and Coffee Shop will be located at 3324 Dundas St. West (The Junction) in Toronto. This one of a kind, pay what you can, grocery store will be a fully stocked grocery store. Aside from a bakery and coffee shop, there will also be a soup bar. Produce for the store will come from Feed It Forward’s farm, Greenwood Farms, in Whitby. Upon harvest the organically grown crops will be available at the pay what you can grocery store. This year’s bounty from Greenwood Farms is estimated to yield 40,000 pounds of organically grown produce. In it’s aim to be a waste free, environmentally friendly facility, the grocery store is initiating a Bring Your Own Container (BYOC) program. And for whatever little waste there is, Feed It Forward has partnered with various local programs that will either recycle or re-use their waste. Designed by renowned designer Jonathan Furlong from the hit television series Restaurant Makeover, the store’s interior will feature merchandising units (tables, shelves, display cabinetry) which were constructed using recycled and reclaimed materials. The store will also have a community rooftop garden and living wall. Frank Ferragine who owns Frankie Flowers, and is a very frequent guest on Cityline, will be designing and assisting Feed It Forward in creating an urban accessible growing space. Program volunteers will then be able to plant and grow organic vegetables for the community. This unique grocery store is one more of Chef Jagger Gordon’s, Feed It Forward’s founder, initiatives in helping those with food insecurities. Here in Canada, 1 out of 7 children go hungry. In Toronto, 1 out of 4 children go hungry. Embodying Feed It Forward’s mission statement that no one should go hungry, patrons will pay what they can, and if they cannot pay they can still receive nutritional food at no cost. Patrons also have the option to pay it forward for someone in need. Please join us Saturday, June 16th between Noon and 7pm as we celebrate the opening of this one of a kind grocery!
