The Saskwatonminiskak 12-part Speaker Series is a Chokecherry Studios initiative funded by Canadian Roots Exchange - Échanges Racines Canadiennes (CRE). Each month, a conversation with local leaders, artists and advocates will be shared. We are honoured to hear from Gabby Daniels, Andie Daniels and Jennifer Altenberg of Young Indigenous Women's Utopia as they talk about community and storytelling. About Young Indigenous Women's Utopia: Young Indigenous Women's Utopia (YIWU) i...s a girl's group based out of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on Treaty Six Territory and the Traditional Homeland of the Métis. As urban Indigenous teens, they come together from many different nations and communities to combat gender-based and colonial violence. YIWU does this work by engaging in cultural reclamation, ceremony, storytelling, arts-based activism and research. They are part of a larger transnational project called Networks for Change and Well-being & More than Words. <3 See more

From our friends and researchers attached to Networks for Change and Well-being; Ethical Practice in Participatory Visual Research with Girls: Transnational Approaches explores the potential of participatory visual method (PVM) for rural and Indigenous girls and young women. It presents and critiques the everyday ethical dilemmas visual researchers face and the strategies they employ to address them, reflecting on principles of autonomy, social justice, and beneficence in transnational, Indigenous and rural contexts.
