The changes to our body as the season changes from warmer weather to cold weather can affect our mental wellness. Maintaining that good feeling may require adjustments to your daily routine. Head over to the PharmaChoice Advice for Life blog to learn more about winter blues and combating seasonal affective disorder. https://bit.ly/33dprpg

Catching a cold is more common in late winter and early spring, however, it is important to know that you can catch a cold at any time of year. You will probably feel a cold come on over the course of a couple of days. As the cold gets worse, your nose may get stuffy with thicker mucus. Did you know that provincial and territorial screening programs use screening mammography? A mammography is a low-dose x-ray of the breast. Screening tests help find breast cancer before any symptoms develop. When breast cancer is found and treated early, the chances of successful treatment are better! Follow these breast cancer screening guidelines, even when you are feeling healthy. - If you are 40 to 49 years old, talk to your doctor about your risk for breast cancer, alon...g with the benefits and limitations of having a mammogram. - If you are 50 to 74 years old, have a mammogram every 2 years. - If you are 75 or older, talk to your doctor about whether having a mammogram is right for you. https://bit.ly/2lLgCQT See more
Did you know that the flu shot is especially important for people who are at higher risk of problems from the flu? Complications from the flu can include serious conditions, like pneumonia, heart attack and, in some cases, death. There are some people that are more vulnerable to complications and hospitalization from the flu: - Children and adults who have underlying health conditions, such as asthma, heart disease or diabetes along with long-term health problems or weakened ...immune systems. - People 65 years old and older - because their immune systems are weaker, and they are more likely to have an underlying condition that increases their risk. - Pregnant women - their immune system, heart, and lungs change, making them more likely to get seriously ill from the flu. - Children 6 to 59 months of age - infants under 6 months old are too young to get the flu shot, but they will get some protection if their parent got the flu shot while they were pregnant. If you or a member of your family are at high risk of problems from the flu, book your flu shot with your PharmaChoice pharmacist today. https://bit.ly/3mN5JZJ
The flu shot is recommended to everyone 6 months of age and older. Just like wearing a mask to prevent the spread of COVID-19, getting the flu shot can help prevent the spread of the flu virus by protecting those close to you. People who can pass the flu virus to those at high risk include: - Caregivers - Child care providers... - Healthcare providers - Family and other household members - Those who provide service in closed settings, such as a crew on a boat. For more information on booking your flu shot, talk to your PharmaChoice pharmacist today. https://bit.ly/3mN5JZJ

TRUE: Breast cancer may not cause any signs or symptoms in its early stages, which is why it is so important to go for regular screening. The most common symptom of breast cancer is a firm or hard lump that feels very different from the rest of the breast. It may feel like it is attached to the skin or the surrounding breast tissue. Some other signs to look out for include: - A lump in the armpit... - Changes in the shape or size of the breast - Changes to the nipple, such as a nipple that suddenly starts to point inward (called an inverted nipple) Screening tests help find breast cancer before any symptoms develop. When breast cancer is found and treated early, the chances of successful treatment are better. Talk to your health care provider about scheduling a screening appointment even when you feel well and healthy. https://bit.ly/30oOeoV

Happy Pharmacy Technician Day! A pharmacy technician is a title-protected, licensed health care provider who performs pharmacy-related functions, working collaboratively with a licensed pharmacist. A pharmacy technician is responsible for so much more then handing over your prescription. They are responsible for dispensing prescription drugs and can give patients instructions on how to use certain medical devices. They also perform administrative duties in pharmaceutical pra...ctice, such as reviewing prescription requests with doctor's offices to ensure correct medications are provided to patients. So if you are visiting your local PharmaChoice pharmacy today, be sure to give a big 'thank you' to your pharmacy technician!

How has the back-to-school process been for you and your family? Coping with the uncertainty around COVID-19 is challenging for most adults, and kids may be having an even tougher time during the pandemic. Social isolation, being thrown into a new routine at school, and uncertainty about what all this means for their friends and family are just a few of the concerns young children and teens may have at this time. This is a great time for you as a family to open up the dialogu...e, ask questions and talk about it! Despite the constant news feed and overload of information, your child may be confused or unsure of what is really going on. Ask them what they know, what their worries are, and what they want to know. Don't be afraid to talk about it, and make sure you address any myths they may have about the illness. Don't be afraid to tell your child you're anxious too, normalize their worries by helping them know it's normal and healthy to worry a little. It will be challenging to address your child's anxiety if your own fears feel out of control. It's easy for kids to forget that you may have fears about your own health, your parent's health, or just the stress of parenting day-to-day. Don't forget to check in with your health care provider during this time to ensure you're coping well. Your health matters too! https://bit.ly/3kZp6gm

The goal is to prevent you from getting the flu in the first place and getting your family vaccinated is the best way to protect them. To learn more about the actions you and your loved ones can take to protect yourself and each other this flu season, head over to the PharmaChoice Advice for Life blog and get reading! https://bit.ly/2MQkxp4
