This week is Nurses Appreciation Week - and today is International Nurses Day! The theme this year is We Answer The Call - showcasing not only the many roles nurses play in a patient’s healthcare journey, but also their efforts in safeguarding the lives of all affected by COVID-19. We’ve all seen the pandemic photos - of nurses with skin damage and bruising from PPE wear, of nurses huddled around patients on gurneys and hooked-up to ventilators - of being caregivers to thos...e alone in hospital without the support of family. The pandemic has brought to light the courage and commitment of our nurses and showed the important role they play in our communities. Our healthcare workers deserve to be recognized and commended for their life-saving efforts and personal sacrifices every day of the year. Please join MedicAlert in celebrating our frontline heroes today and every day - and especially those managing the unprecedented workload of caring for those with COVID-19. Celebrate with us and comment with a

Look. Read. Call. For 60 years, the MedicAlert logo has signaled an immediate gateway to vital health information for first responders. For those serving our communities, quick access to health information not only saves precious minutes - but can save lives. This week is National Police Week in Canada. Public safety involves a collaborative effort between police services, first responders, as well as social, community and charitable organizations like MedicAlert. Launched i...n 2015, Connect Protect is a unique partnership between Canadian Police Services and MedicAlert. The program provides police 24/7 subscriber information i.e. photo identification and physical description, vital emergency health information, emergency contact information, and past wandering history. Connect Protect is ideal for safeguarding loved ones who may wander - such as those with autism, Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia. In partnership with police services coast-to-coast, Connect Protect helps stop the clock in an emergency situation. #MedicAlert #MedicAlertCA #60 #60Years #MedicalID #Subscriber #ConnectProtect #PoliceWeekON #PoliceServices #CACP_ACCP #Appreciation #Community

Meet Nolan. Nolan is a huge champion of @MedicAlert Foundation Canada #ConnectProtect and #Autism Programs -- partnerships that ensure that police have that extra bit of information to help them de-escalate and protect someone with autism who may encounter a set of circumstances that puts them at risk of harm. Last fall, Nolan was treated to a special day with @OttawaPolice to thank him for his support for their work in the community. Nolan was Acting Superintendent Rob Berni...er’s partner for the day which included a tour of the 911 Communications Centre, a ride-along in a police car and special meetings with frontline officers who shared some of their MedicAlert stories with him. We’re proud of the connections our subscribers and Police partners share. We’re celebrating 60 Years of Saving Lives. Meet Michelle. Michelle, like most moms, was basking in the glow of the birth of her second child, Nolan. Life was going along as expected when all of a sudden, her mother’s intuition kicked in. Something wasn’t quite right with Nolan. Panic set in. She rushed him to the emergency room where she learned he was having an anaphylactic reaction. I walked away from the emergency room in a daze," she recalls. I felt blindsided by my son’s new food allergy diagnosis, and overwhe...lmed by the realization that the world as I knew it had just changed. It was life altering, because Nolan wasn't six or seven. He wasn’t even two or three. He was just six months old. But as a personal support worker, Michelle was well aware of MedicAlert, and as she describes it, she only took her a millisecond to make the call to MedicAlert and subscribe her son to their service - ensuring he was protected. That was just the beginning of Michelle and Nolan’s journey. We’re celebrating 60 Years of Saving Lives. Read more about Michelle’s story at https://www.medicalert.ca/blog/2021-05/Michelle

Meet Ann. In 2017, Ann had complicated heart surgery. Afterwards, her doctor put her on blood thinners to help manage her condition. Recently widowed, Ann worried that she didn’t have her back-up Steve, her late husband should anything go wrong and first responders needed to know what medication she was on. I’d never really thought about it before my heart surgery. But everyone knows MedicAlert, and my brother was a subscriber long before me. So, Ann made the call. We...’re glad you did, Ann. Providing people a voice when they may not be able to speak for themselves in a medical emergency is what we do. I always wear my MedicAlert bracelet to ensure my condition is accessible by the medical community should the need arise. It really gives me peace-of-mind. We’re celebrating 60 Years of Saving Lives.
