Good day members, We understand that there has been a lot of confusion, frustration, and unfortunately, anger at the way Hockey is having to operate this year. We are doing our best to keep kids on the ice and give them something to look forward to in this absolute mess of a year we’ve all experienced. We continue to follow the guidelines that Alberta government, AHS, and Hockey Alberta are enforcing for our region. We recognize that it is not an ideal situation for some, but... that does not change the fact that we MUST abide by these guidelines or risk losing the entire season. We also appreciate the diligent work everyone has done in following the preregistration protocols in place to allow for contact tracing. We could not meet this requirement without the help and cooperation of all our members. There is absolutely no way that our Association could keep track of every team and every ice session so we want to thank you for all you’ve done so far. We will need everyone to continue to work together for as long as hockey keeps going so please be aware that we recognize the amazing job you’ve been doing to make things work! We would also like to point out that we are indeed following the guidelines that are currently in place for our area. This means that we are NOT REQUIRED to shutdown as of yet. That may change in the future but our goal is to keep kids playing as much as possible. We are aware of some members that think we should shutdown on our own. This is not a direction we are looking to take at this time. We will continue to offer ice sessions to the kids of our community for as long as the authorities allow. If you are uncomfortable with your kid playing in the current state our city is in, then please feel free to keep them away from the rink. Complaining to AHS or calling our office staff to aggressively voice your displeasure about us not voluntarily shutting everything down does nothing to help our situation. It only adds to the stress and frustrations of our Association and its members as we all work hard to ensure we make things as safe as we can by following the direction of the professionals in charge of the COVID response. We are all doing our absolute best to make things as simple and straightforward as we can. We recognize there is a variety of personal opinions on how things should go. These are nothing more than personal opinions and, regardless of how you feel about how things should go, it does not change anything as to the rules we must follow. We appreciate the concerns, however, we will continue operating under the guidance of AHS, the government of Alberta, along with Hockey Alberta and the various leagues our Rep teams play in. Hello Medicine Hat Minor Hockey Members, Below is a link to the updated FAQ document from Hockey Alberta. We are still currently in an enhanced restriction area according to AHS and the Alberta government but are NOT included in the mandatory shutdown of indoor team sports as of now. We are still able to continue with hockey within our city until further notice from these authorities. There’s another update coming Wednesday afternoon and we will continue to adapt our plan...s as instructed by the Province and AHS. We will update all of our members if anything about our status or restrictions changes.
