PTSD Awareness Day is observed annually on June 27th. This is a day to recognize the effects post-traumatic stress has on the lives of those affected by it. Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental disorder that may occur after a person experiences or witnesses a traumatic event. PTSD has specific psychological symptoms and can affect people of any age, culture or gender. Canada is committed to addressing PTSD and in 2018 passed the Federal Framework on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Act. The Act recognizes that all Canadians can be at risk for PTSD and that a great number face higher risks because of the nature of their work. It's a hot one out there and we want to make sure you're all staying safe while you're out enjoying all of the beautiful sunshine! Here are 5 important sun safety tips! 1) : Drink plenty of cool water to avoid dehydration, especially in these warmer temperatures! 2) : The sun is very strong and the best way to protect your body is by wearing long, loose-fitting, breathable, and light coloured clothing.... 3) : Make sure to apply sun screen on all exposed parts of your body. NATIONAL TAKE BACK THE LUNCH BREAK DAY encourages you to take your lunch break today - and everyday. There’s an increasing trend across all industries to take less frequent and shorter lunch breaks, negatively affecting employee morale and well-being. Engagement affects productivity, happiness and job satisfaction, so it is time to re-instill the importance of stepping away at lunch time. It is also important to eat away from your desk or in front of a computer - it tends to limit social interaction and can lead to the temptation to work while eating.

Ever wonder what is going on in our brains when we smile? When our brains feel happy, endorphins are produced and neuronal signals are transmitted to your facial muscles to trigger a smile. This is the start of the positive feedback loop of happiness. When our smiling muscles contract, they fire a signal back to the brain, stimulating our reward system, and further increasing our level of happy hormones, or endorphins. In short, when our brain feels happy, we smile; when we s...mile, our brain feels happier. AKA fake it till you make it! Yes, if you want to be happy, just smile. Thanks to the positive feedback loop of smiling, we can alter our brain's emotional processing pathway to feel happier with a simple smile. Challenge yourself to smile more often today - whether you are driving alone in your car, sitting through a meeting, or going for a walk - smile big and wide! Show off your smile :)
