I’ve had a lot of conversations lately about product photography. A LOT. Specifically, whether or not I do it. And I do. In fact, I LOVE it.... It’s no secret - I’ve shared the stats in the past - but studies have shown ... Over 90% of potential consumers rely on images when deciding on an online purchase. On average, humans retain 80% of what they SEE, vs only 20% of what they READ. Over 22% of product returns are because the product looked different in real life. I could go on and on. So yes, it’s THAT important. In a pandemic world, the importance of establishing an online presence, whether via social media platforms or your website, has never been more important. Combine that with contactless methods of proceeding (porch drops, curbside pickups and digital downloads), updating your product images remains simple and completely safe. Combine new high quality imaging with intentional captions and you be sure to see your exposure and sales both increase. I have opened a few spots for product-only sessions. Want to know more? ... and sometimes, she’s not quite sure, but she keeps on moving anyway. One foot in front of the other, step by step until she again believes she can. Or so I’ve heard Listen friends,... It’s okay to be unsure - especially in this world. It’s okay to carry grief and guilt and all the emotions that we often try and avoid. It’s okay to mourn the comfort of the world we grew so accustomed to. It’s okay. It’s okay to be overwhelmed or to lose patience. It’s okay to be stressed out or experience anger. It’s okay to feel indifferent and find little interesting or appealing. It’s okay. And one day, it’ll be okay to find yourself on the other side of all this mess, and to right yourself and carry on again. It’ll be okay. Because in that moment, you WILL believe you can, and you WILL do it again, and you will have a whole dang community cheering you on. Side note: how sweet is this embroidery piece gifted to me by my mom, who has spent my whole life cheering me on

Ahh the good old days where saying the word Pivot would inspire imitations of Ross Geller screaming it while wedged between a stairwell and full length couch ... remember that? But here we are, 10 months into this pandemic and pivot has become a dirty word together with the likes of unprecedented, new normal and speaking moistly. But isn’t that exactly what we are DOING? No one thought at the beginning of the year that the whole world would have to shift.... In-person services would be conducted online, restaurants usually packed for the dinner rush would become takeout only, and our daily commute to work would become a 20 step walk to our home office. Wild, isn’t it?! But no matter how the local business community has shifted or evolved, their need for our support remains unchanged. So what does that mean for us? Be patient. Be kind. Be flexible. Sure, you may prefer to engage in your weekly fitness class in person, but if that business can remain open only by teaching programs via zoom, do it. You may love the fancy surroundings of a downtown #ldnont restaurant, but if that restaurant can only remain open by offering takeout or delivery, do it. And of course you may enjoy browsing your local shop for all your favourite products, but if purchasing online with curb-side pick up is what is keeping that shop afloat, then do it. Are we seeing a theme here? While it may seem uncomfortable to change directions with how we purchase products and services, believe me when I say it is even MORE uncomfortable for the local business culture. The rules and guidelines have shifted often, each time requiring a change in procedure. But together we can absolutely do it. Let’s all do our part to leave pivot as a dirty word for the year 2020. Support local. Shop local. Share local See more
