Four years ago we hiked the most remote part of the Appalachian trail (100 mile Wilderness in Maine). It was 8 gruelling days, the hardest thing I’ve ever done. But my goodness the views on the mountain tops were stunning and the feeling post-hike was exquisite, almost addictive. It was the closest thing I’ve experienced to childbirth. I often think of the hike when I’m supporting clients; A doula is like a trail guide, familiar with the path, she keeps you hiking through the hard parts, knowing the view at the end is incredible I know you can do this, one step at a time. I’ve got you, and it’s worth every beautifully challenging moment
