HOW MUCH DO REALTORS MAKE? and who pays them? Simple question that I've overlooked so many times because I forget that Real Estate isn't everyone's thing! So when a good friend asked me what she thought was a "silly" question- it occured to me that people may not know: who pays the realtor and how much? Here's the deal:... The seller typically pays both agents. The industry standard is 5% of the sale price on a re-sale home! Split equally between both agents offices. It is paid after the keys are handed over. **The buyer does not pay a cent!** Why? Super simple- Buyers need to come up with the downpayment for the new house- and since you're a buyer before you’re a seller- it would be very difficult to come up with extra cash on top of the down payment. This wasn't always the way- in the past, the Buyers and Sellers paid their own agents. It wasn't working because buyers had to come up with too much upfront so they would end up buying smaller homes! Please don't be afraid to ask "silly" questions
