Storytime. . It was 2015. I had a 1-year-old and a decision to make. . 1. Go back to the "prestigious" but soul-sucking lawyer job that I hated, but keep the $30,000 they had paid me over maternity leave.... . 2. Walk away from the job and the identity I'd just invested 5 years in, and step into something that was "beneath me" (it wasn't, just something my ego told me) and return the $30K. . The first option was safe and logical. I chose the second option, because I knew deep down my fulfillment was the most valuable thing I could give my daughter, way more valuable than whatever that $30K would have bought us. . Fast-forward to 2019. I now had 2 young kids, a new mortgage, was in the middle of a renovation and had another massive decision to make. . 1. Go back to the well-paying, unfulfilling insurance job that gave me great work-life balance and benefits. . 2. Double-down on my coaching business, which was nowhere near where I thought I needed it to be to leave my safe job. . I chose the second, completely non-logical option. I refused to lose myself and my dreams in exchange for the siren song of "being a mom requires me to choose security over all else". . The greatest gift you can give your kids is to choose to honour the preciousness and urgency of your own life. . Where are you denying yourself that and calling it love? See more
