how can we support our health as we transition into spring? with the warmer weather comes a time for growth and new beginnings. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the organ system that corresponds with spring is the liver. This means that if you have a liver imbalance, it is most likely to flare up and become aggravated in the spring. The energy of the liver tends to flare upwards when it’s out of balance, resulting in tension, frustration and pain to help support the liver, we... need to focus on moving both our body and mind to help settle any tension or over activity. Using the fresh energy of spring allows us to set new goals and move forward with direction and purpose, allowing the body to restore balance signs of liver imbalance: premenstrual symptoms (PMS) irritable bowel syndrome headaches & migraines easily angered or frustrated muscle & tendon tension eye problems excessive stress how to restore balance: exercise adequate sleep meditation & mindfulness healthy diet including: leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables blueberry, strawberry, grapefruit crab, shrimp, trout, whitefish flax, pine nuts, sesame, olive oil things to avoid: sedentary lifestyle stress & over work cold foods, excessive sugar excessive caffeine & alcohol greasy, fried & spicy foods * * * * * #acupuncture #traditionalchinesemedicine #chinesemedicine #milton #miltonmoms #mississauga #mississaugamoms #streetsville #erinmills #oakville #oakvillemoms #acupunctureworks #pain #painrelief #cupping #cuppingtherapy #painfree #painmanagement #guasha #stress #stressrelief #anxiety #anxietyrelief #womenshealth #hormonebalance #hormones #hormoneimbalance #periodcramps #period

why does a TCM acupuncturist look at your tongue? looking at the tongue is the primary form of observation in a TCM initial assessment. It gives a deeper look into what is happening within the body and can help make the diagnosis more definite for the practitioner when performing a tongue diagnosis, a TCM acupuncturist will look at three main things:... the different areas of the tongue, because each area is associated with different organ systems: front = heart & lung middle = spleen & stomach back = kidney & bladder sides = liver & gallbladder the tongue body: colour - pale, red, deep red, purple form - swollen, teeth marks, cracks, deviated, rigid, flaccid, quivering the coating on the tongue: quality - thick/thin, moist/dry, sticky peeled colour - white, yellow, grey, black how’s your tongue looking today? * * * * * #acupuncture #acupuncturist #herbalmedicine #chineseherbalmedicine #cupping #guasha #traditionalchinesemedicine #chinesemedicine #milton #mississauga #streetsville #oakville #acupunctureworks #tonguediagnosis

Did you know that YOU CAN NOT STRETCH FASCIA It is not a contractile tissue like muscle Rather, it is a web of connective tissue that glides through it's ...liquid matrix. When it is restricted or stuck, it is not because it has gotten "tight" or contracted, it is actually adhered down Fascia responds best to gentle prolonged pressure (what we do at Myofascial Release Mississauga) rather than stretches. A good example of this is the IT Band which is a thick band of Fascia, the IT Band is not something you can stretch....BUT it can be released #itband #itbandstretch #itbandpain #itbandproblems #myofascialreleasetherapy #physiotherapy #physicaltherapy #mississauga #streetsville #johnbarnesmyofascialrelease #healing #neckpain #backpain #chronicpain #sciatica #sportsinjury #injuryprevention #pediatrics #prenatal #postpartum #selfcare #myofascialrelease #fascia #mfr

With the recent re-opening of health care clinics, I thought this would be a great time to share a blog post about what you can expect during your first Chinese Medicine Acupuncture treatment! I wrote this blog post awhile back so some things have changed with the new Covid-19 procedures (such as an emailed questionnaire as opposed to talking face to face), but overall it describes exactly what you can expect from a treatment with me! If you have any questions or are interest...ed in learning more about what can be treated through Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine, feel free to reach out to me at [email protected]. If you are interested in booking at appointment with me, I am available in Milton at Milton Back Doc and in Mississauga at Myofascial Release Mississauga :) https://www.acupuncturehalton.com//what-to-expect-in-your-
