Amidst the chaos of the last two months, there have been many, many things that have lifted my spirits. Watching these two phenomenal OT leaders step up to the plate and pull this event together has been the source of many smiles and fist pumps! Laura Park Figueroa and Trish Williams, you’ve both heard me say this many times but once again... WELL DONE! And the event hasn’t even happened yet!! The coordination, the effort, the transparency in your process, your openness to le...arning and your desire to create a high quality virtual event has been so awesome. Having the pleasure to be one of the many phenomenal speakers was icing on the cake!!! My interview is on the power of storytelling to grow your audience and I’m soooo excited to help more OTs step out from the shadows and share more about their experiences. If you’re not already on the waitlist, go sign up NOW! Their early bird details will be announced soon! I promise that this event will lift your spirits and motivate you to think outside the box in terms of what’s possible when combining OT and entrepreneurship. www.otentrepreneursummit.com

Ok my OT friends and colleagues... I know that everyone is scrambling to figure out telehealth (and for good reason). Might I suggest that this is a great time for also figuring out how to create a digital product and a leveraged offer?... As a therapist that's transitioned my business entirely to the online space, I can tell you that it IS possible! And it's not as complicated as you might think. If you'd like to know more, I'm inviting you to a free 5-day training next week, where I'll take you through the basics and help you to build a solid foundation for working in the online space WITHOUT burning out! The first step is to join my free Facebook group (linked in the comments). The second step is to sign up for the actual training, which I've also linked in the comments section. Remember that OTs are innovative, creative problem solvers We’ve got this!

~ International Women's Day ~ This afternoon, I hosted a virtual storytelling event for the OTs in my circle. I shared more about my experiences as a trailblazing OT in women's health and how I transitioned into the online space as a business owner.... Inspired by the amazing women in my community, I opened up about finding purpose in my journey of substance use, recovery and post-traumatic growth in the last ten years. I talked about the dark side of women's health, the mental health struggles that served as a catalyst for my first online course. I talked about my clients that light me up, my friends and colleagues that have lifted me up along the way. To all the women in my life, thank you for motivating me to show up, share my story and most importantly, create programs that help to facilitate change. #womenshealth #internationalwomensday

What am I doing this afternoon? Making a coffee, curling up on my couch, logging into Zoom and checking out February's Monthly Flow Session with Janelle Gullan, one of the special offerings for The WHOT Society members. The WHOT Society is our membership community, where we're supporting OTs who are craving something more out of their professional lives... ... We support our members in doing things differently, whether that be creating an online course, venturing into the world of women's health, building a cash-based business, integrating community workshops into their work. Our members have unlimited access to masterclasses, business resources, workshops, a supportive community and more! Today's special feature is our "Monthly Flow Session" with special guest Janelle Gullan from The Wild Orange Tree. Here's what she's going to be touching on... Menstrual cycles are currently all the buzz in women’s circles, sport, nutrition, fitness and even advertising. So where does occupational therapy fit at the table? Why are we so well positioned to understand and bring menstrual awareness into our own lives and those of our clients? In February the Monthly Flow Sessions are taking a deep dive into occupational therapy theory to explore menstrual cycles from an occupational perspective. We will also consider occupational therapy models to see how feminine rhythms impact the person, our environment and the everyday things we want and need to do. I hope you’ll join me to discover how our professional and menstrual cycles are a match made in heaven! Ps if you're still reading this and you're interested in The WHOT Society, we're opening the doors to new members this week, Tuesday - Thursday. I'll be jumping on FB live tomorrow, Monday Feb 10th, with more details!

Hi friends, Given it's the first month of a brand new decade, I wanted to kick things off with an updated introduction! My name’s Melissa and I’m a recovering perfectionist, a strategic thinker, a story-teller, a fan of the great outdoors and a lover of really good coffee. ... I’m also Canadian. Most of my year is spent in the Cariboo-Chilcotin region of British Columbia (Google it, it’s gorgeous). At least one month of the year is spent on Prince Edward Island, our country’s smallest province that’s nestled in on the East Coast of the country. This is where I grew up, where a piece of my heart will always stay and where I continue to call home. I trained and practiced as an occupational therapist for 13 years...7 of those years as an employee with a non-profit organization, 5 of those years running my own brick + mortar therapy practice and one of those years transitioning away from my brick + mortar and stepping fully into the role of consultant, coach and digital CEO. In the last decade, I’ve trained as a birth coach, a Reiki practitioner, restorative exercise specialist, a women’s health coach, a women’s health occupational therapist, an early childhood development specialist, a health consultant and a holistic business coach. I’m a self-proclaimed student for life on all things related to business and personal development. I spent a lot of time and energy on learning how to be a more effective leader for my team, while building our programs and coaching other occupational therapists in business skill development. I’d now like to hear about YOU and YOUR business needs... Hit me up in the comments section or send me a DM! -> Where are you getting overwhelmed? -> What needs to change this year in order for you to hit those goals? -> What kind of support are you needing? Remember, I’m here to be of service and help so don’t be shy in asking!

Who else is ready to kick this year off with a bang?!? This coming Sunday, January 19th, I'm offering my first masterclass training of the year: "Choosing Your 100k Success Path: A 5-Part Framework for Aspiring OT Entrepreneurs". ... This is a 90-minute training where I’ll be going through important information on navigating the digital space as a therapist and an aspiring business owner. I’ll be sharing information on what it really takes to generate six figures as a solopreneur and why your "hourly rate" is holding you back in growing your business. And if you’re already in business, you can also use this information to help you grow and scale! If you'd like to sign up, tag me in the comments section or send me a message and I'll hook you up :D.

GETTING STARTED IN WOMEN'S HEALTH It's Day 6 of my Pay from the Heart offering -- meaning we have only five days left! Today, I want to focus on an intro serie...s that's near and dear to my heart, "10 Lessons on Getting Started in Women's Health". As an OT, what does "working in women's health" mean to you? Do you think of the prenatal/postnatal health population? Do you think of pelvic health? Or maybe women going through perimenopause and menopause? How many of you think of ergonomics and how it relates to corporate wellness? Or maybe you think of community education, health promotion and prevention? What about breast cancer recovery? Or supporting moms of multiples through the chaos and overwhelm of everyday living? Does it mean community work, where you're offering 1:1 clinical support to your clients? Does it mean running small groups and workshops? Or maybe working in women's health means supporting other therapists in a coaching + consulting role, like I do? How many of you think that working in women's health means starting/running a business? As you can see, there are SO MANY ways to work in women's health as an occupational therapist. What I mentioned above is only the tip of the iceberg! In the intro series, "10 Lessons on Getting Started in Women's Health", I try to empower you to see the bigger picture -- and then be strategic in what you're taking on and how you're building out your roadmap for this journey. Lessons include: Choosing your business model Mindset & Habits Who's Your Target Audience? Knowing Your What & How Where Will You Practice? Getting Clear on Your Why Heart-Led Finances Treading Water Learning to Swim Self-Care + Balance Why am I in a position to offer this intro series? Is it that I'm an expert in everything related to women's health? Not exactly... BUT with that being said, in the last four years, I've had discovery calls, interviews and strategy sessions with so many OTs from around the globe on the topic of getting started in women's health that honestly, I've lost count! And my super power? Strategic planning and building frameworks -- while utilizing my coaching skills to ask better questions. I help OTs to connect the dots as they build out their own unique roadmap for this journey! Interested in knowing more on how you can get access to more of my work, including this intro series? Take me up on my Pay from the Heart offering and LET'S DO THIS! Tag me in the comments section and I'll be in touch with all of the details! Ps. Don't forget to tag your OT friends and help me to spread the word! Let's continue to grow this amazing web of support!!!

It's Day 5 of my Pay from the Heart offering and today, it's a throwback to this little monkey of mine (who's now almost 8!). I had been passionate about working in pediatrics for as long as I can remember... When I became pregnant with Max in 2011, I was practicing as an early intervention therapist with a special interest in sensory processing, developmental trauma and a brain-based approach to family wellness.... It wasn't very long after welcoming him into the world that I became aware of a huge gap in maternal health and well-being. We know that the majority of our neural pathways are established in the first few years of life, within the context of a responsive, attuned parent -- yet there were so very few supports in place to help moms become stronger from the inside-out as they transition into motherhood. This was infuriating!!! When he was less than a year old, I resigned from my job and took the leap... Jumping full on into my training as a women's health OT. After practicing in prenatal/postnatal health for four years, with countless hours of advanced certifications under my belt, I was inspired to create my first online course for health professionals, "An Integrative Approach to Perinatal Health". That course then evolved into "Strong Beginnings: Bridging OT with Perinatal Health". While the entire course is NOT available through my Pay from the Heart offering, there's over 5 hours of content that IS available including presentations on the following topics: - The Changing Physiology Each Trimester - Common Complaints & Concerns in Pregnancy - What Are Your Client's Options for Care? - Starting the Customer Journey Experience - Basic Principles in Core Health - Wellness vs Illness Models of Care - Movement-Based Programs in Pregnancy - The Neurobiology of Fourth Trimester - The Science of Sleep - An Introduction to Perinatal Mental Health - An Overview of Trauma - Boundaries + Burnout - Post-traumatic Growth + Healing Conversations Whether you're an OT that's new to this area of practice, an OT student that's curious or a pediatric OT that's looking for more inspiration in a holistic approach to family wellness, this is your chance... Join me in my Pay from the Heart offering and learn more about this important area of practice. Tag me in the comments section and I'd love to send you more information! Better yet, tag an OT friend or colleague and let them know about this exciting opportunity!!
