No Design Diploma - No Design Experience... But how did it all happen? . Definitely not by hiding behind my screen! When I first started Graphic.Maven and creating graphics with Canva, I had minimal design knowledge. I started watching YouTube videos, tutorials and connecting with other designers to learn more about design. .... Everyday, I would show up in FB groups, reading posts, answering questions about Canva. I eventually recorded tutorials and shared them with my very small audience. People started calling me the Canva Ninja because I knew how to quickly get things done in Canva. . On the other side, I would get tons of negative comments from other designers. "How dare you to teach graphic design?" "Canva is not a platform for real designers" . I could have stopped right then. Because in the end, they were not all wrong. I had no diploma. Barely any experience... Who was I, Mélissa LeMay, trying to make a living with no experience, when some graduate designers were trying to do the same? . Instead, I kept my head high, kept showing up. I honed in on my expertise. I kept serving my audience. I was (and still am) very passionate about what I do. . Of course my success didn't happen overnight. But I was being visible. People kept seeing my name. My face. My tutorials. More and more, they associated my name with Canva. ''Graphic.Maven, the Canva Designer'' . Eventually, I became a Canva Certified Creative... I leveraged that title to get even more visible... I kept showing up. Heck, even to this day, I keep showing up. . If you want people to talk about you, you first need to show up and talk about yourself. . Write this down. . I'm a Visibility Queen. I get seen.
