May 22, 2020 update: We are so close to reopening! Now that we have the dental guidelines we are back in our office preparing and installing all the safety protocols for your next appointment but must remain closed. Until we reopen (hopefully in the next few weeks) anyone with appointments will be called and told their appointments will unfortunately be cancelled. May 8, 2020 update: As you may have heard over the last few days, the province of BC is going to be opening up some services in stages starting this month in May with dental being one of these services. As eager and as excited as we are to reopen our office, we like all BC dental offices are still waiting on the dental association to send us the full guidelines on office protocols, safety equipment and requirements that will be needed to reopen our office. At that point we ca...n prepare our office entirely for your next visit. Although we do not have an official reopening date we know that we are looking at sometime after the May long weekend and this is due to waiting on the proper guide lines from the dental association, and for back logged safety equipment and office renos to arrive and be completed. Keep checking back on this page for more information on what is expected at your next appointment. We look forward to seeing you soon.

OFFICE UPDATE: We would like to thank all of our patients for being so patient with our office during this difficult time with covid-19. We do apologize for any inconvenience this is to you at this time. Unfortunately our office remains closed but we would like to assure every single one of you that we are eager to get back to work and as quickly as possible to take care of your dental needs. While the Canadian government is allowing dental offices in other provinces to reop...en as of early May 2020 this is currently not the case for BC. We must wait to be given all the new BC dental safety guidelines and protocols that will be implemented to all dental offices before we are allowed to reopen. At this time there has been no word on when all BC dental offices can reopen, but in the mean time we are stocking up on all safety/personal protective gear and are making plans to revamp our office along with new air purifiers and other safety equipment for each room including reception to keep you and our staff safe. We are also making strategic plans for how we will be booking appointments, how many patients we can see a day, right down to how many people can be sitting in our waiting room. More details to come as we have them. For now please keep watching this page for future updates on when we expect to reopen and what you can expect at your next appointment. Latest Office Update: March 16, 2020 Due to safety precautions, as of March 16, 2020 all dental offices/practitioners in BC are to close all their doors for two weeks to quarantine all their staff due to Covid-19. For this we have had to call and reschedule all of our patients for the next two weeks to let them know that we are being forced to close our doors temporarily. At this time our staff members are in excellent health and no one is showing any symptoms of Covid-19. Pr...ior to closing for two weeks we feel we have done an excellent job in protecting your health as well as our own by taking every necessary precaution for our offices santitzation and heavily screening patients prior to their appointments, but at this time we do apologize for any inconvenience this closure may bring you and your family. Think of it as one extra step we are taking to protect your health. We look forward to seeing you all in a few week when we re-open. Additionally if you have any questions regarding COVID-19 you can call #811 with your questions. If you are feeling unwell and would like to get tested #811 may be able to direct you to the nearest urgent care centre. For those in Maple Ridge the Urgent Care Center is located at the Maple Ridge Hospital and they can be reached at (604)457-7890.

Notification to all of our patients: We understand that at this time there is concern regarding COVID-19 and the 2020 Vancouver Pacific Dental Conference with an attendee who was there on March 6, 2020 between 2-4pm and carried the virus. Please be assured that the Mellow Family Dental Care Staff were not in the area with the COVID-19 attendee during that time, and all of our staff members are all feeling just fine. Officially announced this morning, Vancouver Coastal Health ...has advised all dental practices in Greater Vancouver to remain open unless symptoms of staff members develop. The Mellow Family Dental Care staff will continue taking the necessary precaution to protect their staff and their patients. We are screening all of our patients and re-booking them if they feel unwell with a fever, cough, headache, shortness of breath or have even travelled internationally within the last 14 days. As well we are getting all of our patients to use hand sanitizer when they walk into our office, and we sterilize each opt room and all of our equipment after each appointment. If our staff ever felt unwell, we would alert our patients and do whatever is necessary to quarantine. But at this time we plan to remain open and operate as normal. Additionally if you have any questions regarding COVID-19 you can call #811 with your questions. If you are feeling unwell and would like to get tested #811 may be able to direct you to the nearest urgent care centre. The snow continues to fall, however our dental office is open today January 16, 2020 until 6:30pm. Drive safely!

Only a few more days!!! On January 17th Mellow Family Dental Care will make it easier for all of our patients as we will have the new text and email feature in place. All of your dental appointment reminders will be sent to your phone by text or to your email. You may also be able to request appointments or send your questions by text or emails to our office. Your wish has been granted! Many of our valued patients have requested text and emails from our office and so you shall have it! Starting January 17, 2020 the Mellow Family Dental Care will be able to send you text and emails to remind you of your up coming appointments where you will be able to confirm your appointment by a click of a button. Need to send us a message? You are still more than welcome to give us a phone call, but you will also be able to send us a text message and we will be able to quickly reply to your questions. This will be a very efficient way to keep track and confirm all appointments.

Please note that our friends at the Valley Fair Dental Clinic will be happy to assist our patients emergency needs while our office is closed during these dates. If you have an emergency please be aware that Valley Fair Dental will not accept your insurance as they cannot check your coverage over the holidays. You may pay in full out of pocket and submit the receipts to your own insurance company for reimbursement. Thank you!

Dental Facts Wednesday!

Hi Everyone! As so many of you are asking about Julia our former hygienist who is now off living her dream of becoming a police officer, we thought it was time to give you all an update. Julia is doing fantastic and we couldnt be more proud of her. She is going to do so many wonderful things for the community and she will make one heck of a great cop. Just like you we miss her smiling face, her contagious laughter, and her larger than life personality in the office, but she wants to let you all know that she looks forward to seeing everyone again and catching up personally, hopefully in the New Year.

Who doesnt love wine Wednesday??? While we all enjoy a nice glass of red after a long days work what does this do for our dental health? Well actually according to Medical Daily there are possibly some dental health benefits that come with drinking red wine such as reduced risk of gum disease and tooth decay. But why does red wine stain your teeth and how can you help reduce the effects? ... Well the answer is simple. Your teeth are porous and teeth enamel isnt smooth whi...ch means the red pigmentation gets into the cracks. So here are a few tricks to reduce the red stain on your teeth. 1. Drink water between sips of wine 2. Brush your teeth and floss the pearly whites before you have a glass 3. Eat as you drink so the food can create saliva which will wash away a lot of pigment. 4. Use a whitening tooth paste after a glass of wine. 5. You can book an appointment in a dental office or use an at home whitening kit which can also be made through your dental office.

Two common questions in our office in regards to Fluoride is? 1. Why do I need fluoride? 2. How long can I eat after fluoride? The answers are simple. Wait 30 minutes after fluoride, find the benefits in what is listed below, and remember to not drink hot liquid like tea or coffee for 4 hours after fluoride as hot drinks will remove the fluoride from your teeth. Also try to avoid sticky things as sticky foods will also remove the fluoride from your teeth.

If you are experiencing any dental issues, the best thing to do is to get it checked out right away. Not only do dental costs increase by the amount or type of work needed, but teeth dont naturally heal themselves. The best thing to do is to keep brushing and flossing daily, and if you run into any sort of discomfort or have any other dental issues, dont delay getting it treated.
