Memories+ Management Team is proud to present the employee of the month to Alejandra Aguilar. Alejandra is a dependable and committed member of our in-home care team who has proven herself to be an asset to our group in many ways. Her passion for providing great care to others shows through in all that she does and her easy-going, authentic personality is addictive. She is also a wonderful support to our clients not only physically but also emotionally during difficult times, and we have been told that Alejandra is also a great cook! Thank you for your outstanding work and dedication. Keep up the good work!

A Message From Our Program Manager..... The leaves are falling, the air is crisp and we are in full autumn mode here at the day program! This past month we did fall themed paintings, created leaf sun catchers, and made gratitude pumpkins. Our members enjoyed talking about Thanksgiving foods and traditions as it brings back so many good memories. Mid October we celebrated Oktoberfest with some non-alcoholic beer, German strudel, trivia and watched some travel videos of the fes...tival. We finished off the month with a week long Halloween party so that members attending on different days could all participate in the festivities. This month we are looking forward to participating in our Remembrance Day service which will also be available virtually to anyone who wishes to observe. Later in the month, believe it or not, we will be starting on some Christmas activities! We've been playing lots of BINGO lately at the day program as our laminated cards make for a prefect COVID friendly activity. The classic game of BINGO is a hit with many older adults, and our members are no exception. BINGO is a staple program here at our centre, our members never say no to the chance at winning some sweets! When you think of BINGO you may think of it as a fun game, but it really is so much more! As a Recreation Therapists I am always looking for ways to fully engage our participants and BINGO does just that. BINGO works on hand-eye-coordination, comprehension skills, fine motor skills, patience, following procedure, works to improve coordination by multi-tasking (listening, looking, marking, watching for a win and shouting out in time), improves concentration and memory, forms a base for social interaction and friendly competition, excitement from getting close and then winning (sometimes), practice with dealing with feelings of frustration when you lose, feelings of pride when you win, expressing choice when picking a prize, and of course its also fun! Not too shabby for a little old game of BINGO? Stay well, Olivia Sedore Program Manager

We made some homemade dog toys this week. It was a great hand strength activity as the members had to pull the knots tight. The perfect Christmas gift for a pup.

A Message From Our Director of Care.... In such a serious and difficult time, we all need to share some inspiration, motivation, and support for one another. Looking back on the months gone by, as a new year starts and an old one ends, we contemplate what brought us joy, and we think of our loved ones and our friends. Remembering how they enriched our lives, we reflect upon who really counts, as the fresh and bright new year arrives. And when we ponder those who do, immediate...ly who do you think of? I think of my family and friends both personal and professional, and how honoured and touched I feel every day when I am welcomed into the homes and hearts of our clients, loved ones and fellow colleagues. The Director of Patient Care Services is a manager of health services, providing leadership and supervision for programs devoted to the welfare of clients and employees, always being innovative and works on client and employee goals. At Memories+ Group we understand and appreciate the vital role that family/friends and our employees share in the daily lives of our clients. Our organization has taken steps to change the culture of dementia care that we offer and decrease the stigma around dementia. As we have been inspired by the methods and content of Positive Approach to Care (PAC) by Teepa Snow, I am proud to have began my journey in becoming a Certified PAC Trainer, and am looking forward to sharing the invaluable awareness, knowledge and skills that the PAC training offers to all our employees and the community. Stay tuned for further details in the New Year. You don’t want to miss out! Additionally, I welcome any feedback or suggestions on current or future educational opportunities or programs. Feel free to connect and discuss personal goals. It would be my pleasure to be of support. A big thank you to the joint efforts of all in keeping safe by following the recommended COVID-19 guidelines. Reminder that updates and resources can be found on the updated COVID section of our website at www.memoriesplusgroup.com. Additionally, check out our updated events page where you can now register online for all of our upcoming programs and events. We wish you a very Happy Holiday Season and a Joyous and Prosperous New Year! Anna Malfara Director of Care Memories+ Group

A Message From Our Director of Care.... Lest we forget They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. A Message From Our Executive Director..... As we enter into November the leaves are now dropping as rapidly as the temperature. It is such a beautiful time of year as our grounds are covered in a carpet of colorful leaves. We also start to see poppies showing up on lapels as a symbol of respect for our veterans. As we gave thanks in October for the blessings that we have before us, we should give thanks in November for the men and women who have served their country to ensure... that we are able to live in a free country and enjoy all the things we work so hard for. Please show your respect on November 11th. This month we are looking forward to learning new things as we start our training in Positive Approaches to Care. We are always excited to learn new things, and this is a whole new approach that we are looking forward to sharing with our entire care team. We will also be starting our Virtual sessions in the community as we did back in the summer, so watch for our upcoming sessions and be sure to share with friends and family. With the day program being almost two months in after re-opening, we are seeing a big resurgence of interest and many new members have joined our group recently. With the new physical distancing restrictions, our program is now officially full each day in the afternoons. We are currently filling our morning spots and have started a wait list for afternoon spots as they come open. We never want to turn anyone away, and will be sure to do our best to accommodate all of our members needs, but as you can imagine, this is a very challenging task during these times and we ask that you be patient with us as we try to juggle everyone’s requests. As always, stay safe and stay strong. Harvey Dix Executive Director Memories+ Group
