SOCIAL STIGMA. Stigma not only directly affects individuals with mental illness but also the loved ones who support them, often including their family members. Stigma can be significantly reduced. People with mental health problems and mental illnesses can be treated respectfully and equally. To make this happen requires the collective effort of all of us at home, at work, in schools, in the media, and on the frontlines of healthcare. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #mhwb #stigma #mentalhealthsupport #wellness

Our conversation this week will focus on the topic of STIGMA. Each year, one in five Canadians experience a mental health problem or illness every year. That’s about 7 million of us. But despite how common it is, mental illness continues to be met with widespread stigma: in hospitals, workplaces, and schools; in rural and urban communities; even among close friends and families. It occurs around the world, not confined within national boundaries or cultural groups. Stay tuned to our posts for more this week! #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #mhwb #stigma #mentalhealthsupport #wellness

Everybody has ways of dealing with difficult emotions and situations. While there’s no perfect way to cope, some behaviors are healthier and more helpful than others. The coping habits you form as a teen and young adult can have a big impact on how you will handle hard times in the future. No matter what you’re going through, it can be helpful to talk to a friend, family member or adult who you trust. If you don’t have anybody to talk to, there are online communities and local organizations you can reach out to for help. Asking for help does not mean you are weak; in fact, it’s a very brave step. #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #lgbtq #mentalillness #wellness #wellnesswednesday
