Frustrating day for the boys in blue as they drop game 2 to the St Albert Cardinals 9-8. Curtis Boyd led the game off with a solo shot to get the boys rolling but timely hits were again missing throughout the game to create separation. Leading 5-2 into the bottom of 6 the wheels fell off for the Merchants. Playing our first game under the lights and smoke played with the fielders eyes as the Cardinal offence came alive scoring 7 to take a 9-5 lead. Despite some late life the guys stranded the tying run on 2nd in the loss. Tomorrow Dustin Larsen takes the hill against the St.James A’s from Manitoba, needing a win to keep our hopes alive.

The Merch started the day a little slow. A quick error and pass ball lead to an early 1-0 lead for the Regina Reds. Rylan Zens pitched a brilliant 6 innings giving up 2 runs, both unearned. The offence was stymied, being limited to only a handful of hits and a single run before scoring 2 in the 7th on the way to a disappointing 8-3 opening loss. Next game is at 7 against the host St.Albert team. Josh Fisher taking the hill next for the boys in blue!

The host team faced off against the 1-1 Barrhead team. After giving up 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning the bats erupted for 10 in the bottom half led by a Cody Thompson double and grand slam. The bats did slow down from there adding 19 more runs in the next 3 innings on the way to a 29-7 victory improving our record to 3-0. Clayton Kary also added a grand slam in the 3rd inning while every batter picked up a hit in the game. Merchants started the weekend hot despite the rain. The boys led the day off with lots of runs and solid pitching on the way to a 13-1 win over the community park reds. After more rain and some adjustments to the schedule our second game was delayed an hour. Once the rain cleared and we started our bats were ready with Cody Thompson hitting a home runs to give us an early lead. Zeke Leuck was dominate on the Hill limiting the Fort Saskatchewan offence for 6 innings. In the 7t...h Fort Saskatchewan rallied make things interesting before Zeke shut the door with a ground ball to finish off a 7-6 Merchant win. The boys take a 2-0 record into Sunday’s next game at 3 against the Barrhead Orioles. Make sure to come on down and check it out! After the Canada Day long weekend off, the Merchants resumed action last weekend travelling to St. Albert for a game against Barrhead and St.Albert. Through the day the boys lacked the big hit and clutch hit stranding runners early and often while the opposition found holes and scored runs. It took a 10-2 loss to Barrhead and trailing St.Albert 11-2 going into the 6th inning before the merchant offence found some life scoring 6 runs, capped by a Clayton Kary 3 run homer. The ...6 runs were too little to late as the Innisfail team fell 11-8, losing both games in a day for the first time this year. The Merchants carry a 9-5 record into our July 15 Home games against the 11-4 St.Albert Cardinals. Game times are at 12 and 3 so come out and watch the top 2 teams battle it out! This weeks Chase the Ace jackpot is up to $433 so come on out Thursday nights for your chance to draw the ace and win the jackpot! See more

Today the Merchants hosted the Community Park Reds from Edmonton for a doubleheader. Entering the 2nd inning with the game scoreless the Merchants sent 15 players to the plate scoring 10 runs on a combination of walks and hits. The offence didn’t slow down scoring 6 more in the 3rd and finishing with a 19-0 win. Zeke Leuck pitched a complete game dominating the opposing hitters for the shut out. Game 2 was scoreless into the 3rd inning before the Reds got on the board with 3 ...runs thanks to some sloppy play on the Merchants behalf. The crew woke up and went to work thanks to Benett Kary hitting his second triple of the day leading the offence with 2 triples and 2 doubles on the day. The team scored runs in each of the last 4 innings to take the lead. Dustin Larsen got the win on the mound in a 8-6 decision for the Merchants. We’re going to enjoy the Canada Day long weekend off before returning to play July 8th in St.Albert. See more

The bats started hot today against the Barrhead Orioles leading 9-0 into the 4th inning. In the game every player collected a hit with Cody Thompson mashing a homer that still hasn’t landed on the way to a 4-5 game at the plate. Ty wagar dominated on the hill throwing a complete game gem limiting the Barrhead offence. Game 2 against St Albert the bats stayed hot scoring 2 runs and 1 in the second to jump to an early 3-0 lead. From there the bats couldn’t capitalize and a 6 run third inning by St. Albert but the boys in a hole they couldn’t dig out of. Despite having runners, the clutch hit couldn’t be found in an eventual 9-3 loss. Next weekend the Merchants take on the Community park reds in Innisfail for a 12 & 3 Sunday start. See you out there!

Last night the Merchants took on the Trappers for the second time of the year. With player/coach Jay Kirkham on the hill for the senior team, the juniors were in tough. In the top of the 1st the patient hitting men’s team put 5 on the board to take an early lead. The Merchants got 2 back in the bottom of the inning thanks to a Cody Thompson 2 run homer. Our pitching held the men’s offence in check til the 4th inning before a Kyle Burkitt homer put the Trappers ahead 6-3 leading to an eventual 7-3 Trapper win. It was a great great between a couple excellent baseball clubs from Innisfail. Stay tuned for the next match up between the teams!
