February is Black History Month and in addition to using this as an opportune time to listen and learn, it is also an ideal time to support black owned businesses and organizations. This is my friend @jazzamynwalker owner and operator of @saucestrap - for as long as I’ve known Jazz, she’s always been using her voice to educate people about black history and the struggles that black people face on the daily. Since the beginning of the Black Lives Matter Movement, she’s beco...me a big voice in the communities in Squamish-Vancouver, constantly shining light on the movement, discussing racism and inequality, and always doing so with so much grace. As we enter this new year and as I just entered my 30’s, naturally I feel a pull to evolve myself and my brand. I’m certainly a different Brooklyn than I was years ago when I started making pieces under @mercuryretroshade and how I thought I would grow this brand then is very different than how I want to grow it now. Its history will always be rooted in festival culture and the community of people who influenced me then. Deep to my core, however, I’ve been feeling dra...wn towards making pieces tailored less towards the rave and a little more towards..well, I still don’t know if I’m ready to label it yet but a little more grown and evolved. Before making this transition, I need to work through the insane amount of fabric and fur I have in storage. So you can expect, lots of fur collars, possibly some fur hats, and mayyybe a fur jacket or two. MAYBE! lol. This doesn’t mean that I will never make fur coats and festival pieces again, but let’s face it festivals ain’t happening for a while fam! I’m taking this as a perfect opportunity to work on what my heart has been telling me to do.
