After almost 5 years we reached our 'zero emissions' goal with our home. This house had been retrofitted with energy efficient windows, and geothermal when we purchased it. We added a net-zero solar system that supplies all of our grid-tied power. We also added 1.5" of foam around the outside of the house, and added stucco. That alone has saved $100 a month in power. We removed the chimneys on the weekend, and our goal has been met! It just takes time, perseverance, research and a bit of savings...but it will pay itself off in the long run.
