SUGARBUSH 2021 Our Sugarbush season is back for the 28th year, and we are so excited to welcome guests back to the farm! Starting this weekend, the farm wi...ll be open for our Sugarbush Season every Saturday and Sunday from 9am-3pm. Things will look different this season compared to previous years, but we are committed to bringing the same fun and experience people come back to the farm for in a safe manner! NEW THIS YEAR This year we will be charging a $10 admission per carload. (Cash recommended) This admission allows you to enter the farm, visit the grounds, explore how maple syrup is produced the heritage way, visit the animals and walk our new trails! *Please note this admission fee does not cover any extras, such as taffy, any items from the snack shack or our restaurant menu. After so much feedback, we have opened up our previous trails, and made walking/snowshoeing trails for everyone to enjoy! The 2km of groomed trails will take you through our hertiage laneway of maple trees, our dense maple grove, our Christmas trees field, and even some picturesque cedar trees! *Please note there are no dogs permitted on the farm or trails unless it is a service animal. Our pancake breakfast as everyone has come to know and love, has sadly been put on hold for this season. However, as a Stanley’s staple, we can’t go without serving our famous pancakes! Our Pancake House will be turned into a restaurant where you are able to purchase take out food, and even walk around the farm while eating! What other food is available you ask? Visit our snack shack where we’ll be serving up mini donuts, maple candy floss and our taffy shack for our delicious maple treat! A full take out menu will be posted prior to every weekend! There is so much to see and do this year including our hertiage sugarshack, where you can watch sap get turned into syrup, visit our education centre to see antique carriages and sleighs, or even our Farm Shop for some delicious maple syrup and farm to table goodies! The 2020 edition of the Metcalfe Fair will celebrate our community and fair spirit, but it will be a different experience than fair-goers and exhibitors know it... to be and love. The Metcalfe Fair has always been a weekend to showcase the local rural and agricultural community. It is a time to commemorate and renew friendships and for family members to come back home for a visit as they watch livestock shows; see the culinary exhibits, crafts and quilting; enjoy the thrill of the demo derby and truck pull; and sample fair food. The Metcalfe Agricultural Society (MAS) Board of Directors has decided that the traditional fair will not take place in 2020 to protect the health and safety of fair participants and our community. Instead, the Board is currently developing re-imagined fair events, all while adhering to guidelines and restrictions of both public health and governmental bodies. Please watch for information regarding these events on our website and social media pages in the days and weeks ahead. To our army of volunteers, our sponsors, exhibitors, concessionaires, vendors, midway, and all our fair supporters: You are the heart of the Metcalfe Fair. Mental Health is very important and often, especially in agriculture or even in the events industry there is high burnout rate. We all have mental heath, and i...t’s very important that we all take care of ourselves! Very rarely is mental health talked about in these two fields, because we know we have deadlines, and we have others relying on us that continue to push us, or result in lack of our own time off. Our staff have recently reflected to us that they’re not used to having so many weekends off in a row and it feels nice to sit back, however feel guilty about it. It’s very important to have that work/life/social balance, and although not under the circumstances we would ever want, we’re glad our staff are out enjoying the sunshine, working on themselves, and focusing on their mental health. Typically a lot of our community involvement in the past would be behind doors, or not put out to the social media world, and as we’ve recently needed help from our community - you’ve delivered during these times. This time, we’re delivering. As we value mental heath and mental wellness, being a community and supporting each other is equally as important. We’ve partnered with Children’s Mental Health of Leeds and Grenville to help sell Crackle Pop Kindling for Children’s Mental Health during this. We all have mental health, even our little ones, and it’s important that we all check in on one another, and maybe even get out to the backyard and hear some crackling happening! If you cannot come to the farm for some Crackle Pop kindling or can’t have a fire in your backyard, please consider making a donation to Children’s Mental Health of Leeds and Grenville, your local foodbank or food-cupboard, or your local call centre/distress-centre as they’ve seen rising number of calls during these times. We’re all in this together and eventually we will be able to gather again, however until then, thank you for your support and remember to take care of yourselves!
