LOOKING FOR AFFORDABLE PROGRAMMING? Over the last couple of weeks we’ve been asked about affordable weightlifting programming for people unable to train with us at the club. Good news! We’ve added our club programming to TrainHeroic online for approximately $20/month ($15 USD)! We’ll be providing 2 programs, updated every week, and the best part is you can try it out for 7-days free: 3-Day Squad - This 3 day/week program can be used as a stand alone guide for weightlifters wi...th limited time to train during the week or as a supplemental program to functional fitness athletes looking to give their Olympic Lifts a little more TLC. 5-Day Club Team - Follow the exact same programming we use at the club for our athletes. It’s designed for weightlifters who need a holistic approach to get stronger and improve their technique with a full accessory regimen to keep you injury-free. 5-DAY WEEK LINK IN BIO: https://marketplace.trainheroic.com//method-barbell-club-t 3 Day Squad: https://marketplace.trainheroic.com//method-barbell-3-day- - #MethodBarbell #Method #Barbell #BarbellClub #ClubProgramming #Programming #StrengthAndConditioning #StrengthProgram #Oly #OlympicWeightlifting #OlyWeightlifting #Snatch #CleanAndJerk #Clean #Strength #YEG #YEGFitness #Evolve #TrainHeroic @trainheroic

OFF-PROGRAM MAX-OUTS There’s a common frustration I’ve noticed among coaches when their athletes go heavier than the plan. I understand why. We spend hours planning every week so that our athletes can feel their best when it matters and off-program max outs can throw a wrench into that. But we’ve all experienced those unexpected PR’s. A sudden burst of energy or an electric group of training partners that make you feel like you can run through a wall. It takes an experienced... athlete to understand intuitively when to push and when to follow the program. For inexperienced lifters, the coaches oversight is crucial in making that determination. It’s also important to consider where in your training block you are. Competition in a month? Probably not the time. No competitions planned in the next few months? More autonomy for the athlete. My advice is to not make a habit of regular off program maximal attempts but to cook when the pan is hot. For a more systematic approach try standardizing a self evaluation before every workout during your warmup. Some coaches use a vertical jump test, others a grip strength test, and some use a simple 1-5 scale for sleep, energy, and nutrition to gain insight on the athletes potential for that day. Here’s Andrew with a 170kg/375lbs pause clean on a day where he was expected to stop at 144kg/317lbs. Am I frustrated about it? No of course not. It’s important to maintain momentum in a long training block and confidence is a huge part of that. Instead, I’ll adjust the following week’s intensities to maximize recovery and use the success on that day as a reminder to the athlete of the progress we are achieving during times they aren’t feeling their best. #Weightlifting #MethodBarbell #MaxOut #Barbell #BarbellClub #OlympicWeightlifting #Oly #Method #YEG #YEGFitness #Competition #PR #Compete #Lift

Last month, Method Barbell coaches @thecolemarshall and @ginja_____ninja attended @weightlifting_house 's first #coachesonly conference where we heard from some of the best coaches, athletes, and sports scientists in the world of weightlifting. Big thank you to all the presenters and @seb_ostrowicz at Weightlifting House for putting this together. It was also great to see some other coaches from Alberta taking part. As coaches, it's important to stay learning. Weightlifting i...s full of polarized opinions about technique, training environments, and programming styles. It can be intimidating, especially for new coaches, and creates a compelling reason for many to withdraw and keep information close-to-chest. We need to remember that the well-being and performance of our athletes are our focus. Performance requires perspective, and perspective requires collaboration. Our dedication to bettering ourselves as professionals should mirror, and even exceed, the dedication we expect from our athletes. Presenters: Justin Holly - @willpowerweightlifting Dr. Anna Swisher - @coachswisher Shyam Chavda - @coach_chavda Kate Nye - @katherinenye Dr. Mike Israetel - @rpdrmike Dr. Sergii Putsov - @putsoff Dr. Quinn Hennoch - @quinn.henochdpt Sean Waxman - @the_sean_waxman Spencer Arnold - @spencergarnold
