New Monthly Newsletter: The Northwest Chronicle Launched Today. July 15, 2020 - Buffalo Narrows The Métis Legal Research and Education Foundation (MLREF) is pleased to announce that today it has launched a monthly newsletter: The Northwest Chronicle. The main purpose of the newsletter is to bring awareness to the Métis citizens of northwest Saskatchewan on issues and activities which impact their daily lives.... The Foundation has been in existence since 2001 and has engaged in a number of major court actions around hunting and fishing rights, as well as land claims. Upcoming newsletters will keep the northwest Saskatchewan s.35 rights-bearing Métis community updated on developments dealing with these and other matters. As a longstanding member of the Foundation Board, I am extremely pleased that we are turning to a monthly newsletter to help bring awareness to our people in northwest Saskatchewan on where matters stand on issues of importance to them, including the issues related to the Ile a la Crosse Boarding School stated His Honour Duane Favel of Ile a la Crosse. New Board Member, Joe Daigneault of Beauval who suggested doing the monthly newsletter stated: I am excited about the potential this newsletter offers us to bring important issues and information to our Métis citizens in northwest Saskatchewan. Much of this information has been lacking in the past, and by this new communication tool we are hopeful that more and better information is provided. In addition to the monthly newsletter the Foundation will keep an active website and Facebook page to ensure dissemination of the newsletter, as well as supplementary information. I see the issuing of a monthly newsletter, coupled with an active website and Facebook page as positive developments which will both enhance the work of the Foundation, as well as assist in keeping the people we serve with up-to-date information stated Foundation Board Chair, Clément (Clem) Chartier QC of Buffalo Narrows. For further information or questions, contact Clem Chartier at (613) 720-9649, Duane Favel at (306) 833-7857 or Joe Daigneault at (306) 288-7292.

The Metis Legal Research and Education Foundation is closing it's doors. It has been a rewarding twenty plus years serving the Metis community and individuals with our pro bono legal services in times of need. We will receive the courts decision in our three trials in Meadow Lake on August 24, 2018, and win or lose, will celebrate that day our overall efforts toward the recognition of the Aboriginal rights of the Metis of Fort Qu'apelle and Regina and Northwest Saskatchewan, North East Alberta and beyond. We thank the many lawyers and experts (genealogical, historians, cultural) and Elders who have worked with us to defend the traditional way of life and cultural values. Thanks, from all of us, to those who have supported our work. Over and out.
