Old Man's Beard (or Usnea) lichen can be found in abundance all along the Trail. Did you know that healthy lichen is an indicator of good air quality? Breathe deep hikers!
A view from below of the trail. Less than a month until we reopen!
The Stewardship Office, which has recently taken over administration of the Metlakatla Wilderness Trail, was out surveying the trail for blowdown recently. It's looking great! And we are excited to be opening to the public May 1st.

It has been my pleasure to have been involved with the development of the Metlakatla Wilderness Trail. My last trail-related task will be to transfer administration of this Facebook site to the Metlakatla Stewardship Society. Please continue to follow this page for ongoing trail updates and announcements. Good Hiking & Happy Trails... Cory Stephens

Aaron Trowbridge reported on the campsite's features during a week stay in August 2012 (Images shared by Aaron Trowbridge, Forest Ecologist). Although the campsite was not opened in 2012, it will be available for 2013.
Please don't confuse this canoe with the similar one that is tied to the Metlakatla dock. This canoe, owed by Aaron Trowbridge, is unique in that it has a sail and he recently travelled Dundas Island to Big Bay using only wind power...
