Metric Strategies 24.06.2021

This week’s Lunch and Learn for Asian Heritage Month is centered on connection, love, and joy. We wanted to recommend some stories and experiences that would celebrate and uplift. These are soothing, emotional and complex. They feel like a bit of a port in a storm. The women of Made In Podcast put this episode together last year to celebrate Asian Heritage Month. Love is the shape of cut fruit https://bit.ly/2RO0U7b Following on the themes of motherhood, The Cut recently s...poke with Michelle Zauner about feeling close to her mom through Korean food: https://bit.ly/2RJDuAb More themes of motherly love! In this podcast, Vancouver-based artist Sandeep Johal talks about her art and motherhood: https://bit.ly/3hjfoXv On May 18th the Asian Heritage Foundation is hosting a panel of contributors to the book Home is in the Body: 2SLGBTQIA+ FilipinX Femme, North of the 49th Parallel. https://bit.ly/3w0nE2J What brings more joy than music? This May, Metric is marking and celebrating Asian Heritage Month. Metric is committed to building a progressive movement that is, at its heart, intersectional. It is critical that labour, activism, and politics work to centre the voices and experiences of BIPOC people to truly build an inclusive and equitable movement. We are committed to learning about and amplifying the experiences and profound contributions of Asian-Canadians. We have done a digital content deep dive so t...hat we can recommend webinars, podcasts, digital events, and playlists for a weekly Lunch and Learn Series. This week’s learning centres on identity, history, and experience. If you have five minutes: The Secret Life of Canada’s Shout Out to Gay Asians of Toronto: https://bit.ly/3b3Bl9f If you have a couple of hours: We recommend listening to CiTR’s series from last year called Motherlands: https://bit.ly/33bskX5 If you have all week, pick up or listen to Scaachi Koul’s One Day We’ll All Be Dead And None Of This Will Matter. https://bit.ly/3eX1bgl Plan ahead and put this Museum of Vancouver virtual artist tour in your calendar: https://bit.ly/3xTZ1qv

On this Day of Mourning, Metric honours the lives lost and impacted by COVID-19, and supports the call for paid sick days, COVID-safe workplace practices, and respect for workers’ health and wellness. It was an honour to work with the Canadian Labour Congress - Congrès du travail du Canada on this video for National Day of Mourning. Workplace injuries, illnesses and death are preventable. Even during a pandemic. #DayofMourning

Metric's Michael Roy collaborated with Erin Crandall, an associate professor of politics at Acadia University, to drop some fundraising knowledge on us in IRPP / Policy Options magazine as part of their feature series, "The Insider's View Behind the Scenes of Election Campaigns". Spoiler alert: Technology, governments and legislation may change over time but relationships with supporters when fundraising for a cause is forever.
