Question for the day: Q: Do I need to pay for treatment from Metro City? A: No. Seeing a doctor for treatment of a health condition is an insured service in Canada. It is free to you. Metro City does not charge any additional "counseling fee" or any such costs that may be charged by other clinics.

Question of the Day: Q:Im younger than 18 years old. Can my opioid use problem be treated? A: Opioid use disorder (opioid addiction) is a serious condition no matter how old you are. We can discuss treatment (including medication treatment) with young adults, and do offer medication therapy when it will be beneficial. We encourage young patients engaged in medication treatment to take advantage of counseling, behavioural therapies, and other addiction recovery services that are offered. Please let us know your age when you call for your appointment. If it is possible, bring a parent with you for your assessment. We are happy to discuss health issues and treatments with your family.
An open invitation to all public officials who serve Calgary and to all citizens who share this community: This years International Overdose Awareness Day (IOA...D) occurs as Calgary continues to lose hundreds of citizens to drug poisoning each year. Last year alone, at least 316 people died in Calgary from accidental opioid poisoning; 733 people lost their lives in Alberta. Our public health crisis worsens. Each year, IOAD is observed globally on August 31st to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and to acknowledge the grief families and friends feel when loved ones are hurt or killed by drug overdose. Change the Face of Addiction and AAWEAR (The Alberta Addicts Who Educate and Advocate Responsibly) will host Calgarys IOAD at Calgary City Hall from 12.00 p.m. to 1.00 p.m. Last year, we appreciated the interest of public officials to address Calgarys IOAD gathering. However, in planning this years event, it was important to our group and those we serve that the lives of people who use drugs are dignified by speakers who truly understand. Out of respect for grieving families and loved ones, we have planned Calgarys IOAD to be a platform for only the voices of those who work on the front lines or have lived experience. All public officials are welcome and urged to come listen. International Overdose Awareness Day spreads the message that overdose tragedies are preventable and every life matters. We hope youll show your support by attending our event, so that the voices of people affected are heard, so that they feel cared for, and so that their wisdom can carry. Please join us on August 31st at noon, on the steps of City Hall for International Overdose Awareness Day. Sincerely, The Alberta Foundation for Changing the Face of Addiction #733PeopleNotNumbers #IOAD2018 #SeeMe
Question for the day: Q: How soon will I start treatment? A: Opioid use disorder is an urgent medical problem. People can get hurt while waiting for treatment. So, we will try to see you the same day you contact us if possible. If it isnt possible to see you that day, we will try to see you very soon thereafter. We are usually able to start medication therapy the day of your initial assessment. Only safety reasons may delay the start of medication. Rarely, patients may need to wait a day after their first assessment.
