I'm excited to be joining up with musician Sam Westcott for our Yoga Nidra and Restorative Yoga class on Monday, March 9th at 7 PM Who is Sam? Sam Westcott is ...an improvising guitarist, pianist and songwriter in Ottawa, Ontario. Originally from Topsail, Newfoundland, Westcott studied jazz guitar at St. FX University, and then English, and Creative Writing at Memorial University. His music, and teaching draws from, and combines elements of film score, jazz, electronic music, pop, and rock, as well as classical music, and world folk musics. Westcott is currently playing and recording with Ottawa-based groups OyaCombo, Ataraxia, and Amateur Painter. See more

How do we build resilience in the face of today's challenges and complexities? One pathway is Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction. If you're looking for a solid program to set you on some steady footing moving forward into spring, consider this! Jennifer Innes will be offering a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program at Metta from March 26th to May 14, 2020 from 7:00-0-9:30 PM. Jennifer is a mindfulness meditation and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) teacher, a mindful self-compassion (MSC) teacher-in-training, and a certified Sivananda yoga teacher. She founded Ottawa Meditation & Wellness to teach mindfulness, self-compassion and MBSR to those wanting to live with greater physical and mental ease and well-being. Jennifer is a skilled teacher who has a range of experience working with adults and youth from a variety of backgrounds, including those who suffer from a range of challenges, such as chronic pain, trauma, anxiety, and depression, as well as those simply looking for new tools to build resilience and meet the stressors inherent in daily life. Jennifer is qualified by the University of Massachusetts Medical School to teach Jon Kabat-Zinns internationally acclaimed eight-week program with a growing body of evidence supporting its efficacy. She has also completed the universitys MBSR program in mindbody medicine and the MSC teacher training offered by the Centre for Mindful Self-Compassion at the University of San Diego California. She has been a dedicated practitioner of insight meditation for years and has deepened her personal practice through studies in Buddhism and several silent retreats at Spirit Rock Meditation Centre and the Insight Meditation Community of Washington. She has had the opportunity to be taught by many very respected mindfulness teachers and practitioners, including Jack Kornfield, Tara Brach, Joseph Goldstein, and Kamala Masters, among many others.

Our dynamic movement classes are rich, interesting, unique, and fun experiences for body AND mind. Newest on the schedule is Erika Bryson's Move.Play.Sweat. on Sunday mornings at 9:30. Enjoy an hour of building strength, co-ordination, balance and resilience in a light and fun atmosphere in our indoor or outdoor studio. We will move our bodies in all sorts of unique ways, throw and catch objects, crawl and jump, navigate obstacle courses and enjoy the natural movement of our bodies in a non-competitive atmosphere. Children 12+ are invited with a parent, so come join us for Sunday morning movement adventures as a family!

Wondering about GMB Pillars? Our awesome instructor Dwayne Desloges (pictured here!) offers this class on Saturday mornings at 9:30am. This class uses GMBs full curriculum to develop strength, flexibility, and motor control. Class will begin with a warm up, which continues as we move in to the Elements Program. We will spend some time exploring some new movement skills using the Vitamin Program. Once we're warmed up, we will get our sweat on with Integral Strength, before st...retching out with Focused Flexibility.
