Happy June everyone! With all of the rain London has had, I have struggled to find my step into summer (at least into the summer season of not teaching). This has included a lack of connection with my Instagram. Maybe you can relate to this feeling of a slow start or difficulty finding your groove into the Spring and Summer season. I am working on giving myself permission to slow my expectations down and just sit with where I am right now. Rushing into where I think I should be has never helped before. Instead, I’m setting time to be with the people that fool me with energy and to do the activities that keep me grounded. What a poem to shed insight on the process of therapy! Therapists have no book of filled with the answers to their needs. Rather, we offer the space to listen and the heart to sit with you in the really big, hard, and heavy feelings. Therapy is a space to welcome in the monsters, whatever they may be. With your therapist you have the ability to see and sit with the toughest and scariest parts and say ‘I recognize you’re here, I feel you, and I don’t have to run away’. What... I’ve learned in this work, is that inviting the monsters in is rarely easy. But, with a therapist you trust, in a space that feels safe, sitting with the monsters can feel more tolerable. Therapy isn’t magic. It’s work, it can be scary, and it can be heavy.
