Sooooo, can someone please tell us what that little groundhog had to say?? Will we be portaging early this year or snowshoeing a little longer?

MHO Adventures 17.01.2021

Did you know that Mispon is Moose Cree for it snows? When we travel down the Missinaibi River we are in the traditional territory of the Missanabie Cree and Moose Cree First Nations, as well as many other communities which have existed there over past centuries. Today you will find Moose Cree people in the twin towns of Moosonee and Moose Factory at the mouth of James Bay. As it snows down here in Huntsville and up there in Moose Factory, we stare longingly at our canoes dreaming of travelling down the beautiful Missinaibi river and arriving in one of our favourite communities that always welcome us with open arms, smiles and stories.

#BellLetsTalk Day raises money for mental health initiatives in Canada. Every call, text, and social post that includes #BellLetsTalk receives an additional 5cent donation from Bell Canada. These donations help countless Canadians receive the support they need, and when people step up to share their experiences, we create a world where talking about our mental health is safer and free of stigma. And that’s a world we are all ready to live in. So keep talking!

Fun Fact Friday // Did you know, Canada's largest river is the Mackenzie? It's over 4,000 kilometres in length. This is the same distance it takes to drive from Toronto to Algonquin and back SEVEN TIMES. The Mackenzie is located in Canada's boreal forest - which is north of the 50th parallel - and it flows into British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Yukon AND Northwest Territories. It is also believed that the Mackenzie valley was used as a path during initial human migration from Asia 10,000+ years ago. So much history in one river... to think Canada has over 8,500 of them. Thinking about getting on the water in 2021? Check out our website to see what trips we have coming up!

You have an incredible company and your passion for what you do shines through in the high quality trips you organize and lead. Thank you, thank you, thank you!" - Suzanne Biemiller, Women's Lower Missinaibi We have an amazing team of energetic and highly trained guides who are dedicated to providing positive and rewarding experience. But why take our word for it, when you can see for yourself?

Today is World Kindness Day. Let this be a reminder to be kind to ourselves, to one another and to nature. The MHO community challenges you to practise at least ONE random act of kindness today. What will it be?

Not all learning happens in the classroom, and that's why at MHO Adventures, we believe it's important to get young people outdoors, to challenge themselves as well as a way to find their purpose and passion. This is why we're proud to get involved with The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award - Canada, specifically the Adventurous Journey portion. This section of the award is all about getting outside and exploring unfamiliar and challenging environments, which is exactly... what we do at MHO Adventures. We've already planned out our Duke of Edinburgh's adventures for the 2021 paddling season. We have trips for bronze, silver and gold skill level. For more information on our Duke of Edinburgh adventures, click the link below. https://mhoadventures.com/dukeofed/

#FunFactFriday Did you know that the French River played a part in the fur trade? Samuel de Champlain travelled on this river as early as 1615. The Ojibwa also named the river "French" because it brought the French into their land.

Today is Orange Shirt Day and it's something that means a lot to us as a business. Orange Shirt Day is more than just wearing orange for one day, it was designed to educate people and promote awareness about the Indian residential school system. It is also about the impact that these schools had on the Indigenous communities for more than a century in Canada. Many communities and cities around the country have help memorial walks, film screenings and other public events, as a... way of raising awareness about Indigenous history. Today, we'll be wearing our orange shirts as a way of showing our solidarity with the Indigenous community. To learn more about Orange Shirt Day, please click the link below. https://www.orangeshirtday.org/

We've been currently reading Adam Shoalts' book, Beyond the Trees. While reading his book, this paragraph really resonated with us. "... Personally I think the more we can step away from society's deepening addiction to digital screens, to 24/7 connectivity, to unnecessary clutter, the healthier we'll be. Immersed in nature, one feels alive. Shut up indoors all day, staring transfixed at a screen, one loses something." This paragraph could not be more true! We travel in areas that have little to no cell phone service, so our guests can enjoy their time in nature uninterrupted. And trust us, they love being able to disconnect from their phones. That's something we've heard time and time again, from those that go on adventures with us.
