On this day in 2014, the Children First Act came into effect in Alberta. The Act states that the well-being, safety, security, education and health of children are priorities for Albertans. An important part of the Children First Act is its recognition of a multidisciplinary approach. All individuals, organizations, programs and services that support children are to collaborate through information sharing to serve in the best interests of every child. Children are our future and it is important that we all recognize our role in ensuring they are protected and met with every opportunity to thrive. For more information about the Children First Act, please visit alberta.ca #CAC #ChildrenFirstAct #Alberta #AlbertaCACs #NewYearsDay #YXH #IBelieveYou

It’s #NationalChildDay November 20th has been annually recognized as a day in which we honour the rights of children and youth, and the important role they play in our communities and in their own lives. Children deserve every opportunity for a bright future- basic needs, protection from harm and to have their voices heard. While today is celebratory of those rights, it is also important to bring attention to those who are not receiving the respect and treatment they are entitled to. Child Advocacy Centres across Alberta invite you to celebrate National Child Day with us not just today, but year round. #NationalChildDay #KeepKidsSafe #BrightFutures #AlbertaCACs #SupportKids #Alberta #UhavethePower #CAC #Childabuse #IBelieveYou #YXH

Those impacted by sextortion should not have to suffer alone. According to a survey by Thorn.org, 1 in 3 who experienced sextortion did not tell anyone. This is often because they feel too ashamed or embarrassed about the abuse. With the increased amount of time children and youth are spending online, it is essential that we raise awareness of sextortion and know the potential warning signs. It is all of our responsibility to keep them safe from danger and help those need i...t. Your voice could make a significant difference for someone who is struggling and is unsure who to turn to. Reports of child abuse must be made to the following reporting sources: Medicine Hat Police Service: 403-529-8400 Child Abuse Hotline: 1-800-387-5437 (KIDS) Kids Help Phone: 1-800-668-6868 or Text CONNECT to 686868 Crime Stoppers: 1-800-222-8477 Online Exploitation: cybertip.ca Or your local police/RCMP detachment. #BrightFutures #AlbertaCACs #SupportKids #Alberta #UHaveThePower #CAC #IBelieveYou #YXH

Children who suffer abuse may go unnoticed while Canadians continue to spend more time at home during the global pandemic. For those children at risk, home is not always a safe place. As a community, we all have a role in protecting children. Don't wait. If you are worried about a child, reach out. Visit cac-cae.ca to learn more.
