Did you ever want to live at the hockey rink? For some kids growing up it almost seems like they do with the amount of time spent on the ice. For the Red Deer R...ebels of the WHL though, that is exactly what they are going to be doing. They will be living at the Westerner Park Centrium with beds set up in the arenas private suites, social spaces created and an area for school aged players to complete their studies. This is definitely going to be a unique experience for the players and it should work well for team bonding. #DontStopBeLeafing

The Medicine Hat Ringette Association (MHRA) reluctantly would like to announce that the 2020/2021 ringette season has officially ended. The decision was a har...d one to make, says Jay Pinnell President of MHRA, we all wanted to get back to the sport we love but we just couldn't make it happen under all the limitations. Ringette has not been permitted by the Government of Alberta since team sport restrictions came in place at the beginning of December due to Covid-19. Earlier this month Ringette Calgary, the league that Medicine Hat ringette plays in, announced there would be no more scheduled games this season. That was followed by a last minute announcement from the Government of Alberta that youth minor sports would be permitted with a multitude of restrictions. With the numerous challenges of keeping athletes three metres apart at all times, limited change room access, no spectators/parents allowed in local facilities and possible 24 day quarantines for volunteer coaches the MHRA ultimately decided it would be best to end the season a few weeks early. As only half the season was completed, all MHRA members will be refunded 50% of the season fees that were paid. Refunds should all be processed by the end of March. For those players still interested in getting on the ice the MHRA is exploring possibilities and local partnerships to offer skill development camps within the current restrictions. Interested ringette players should contact the MHRA for more details, [email protected] A big part of ringette is the social aspect concludes Pinnell we want to be able to offer our players a quality experience with games, skills and fun with their friends. We are looking forward to next season and seeing all our athletes enjoying themselves on the ice again.

Because our athletes are high-risk, we are making the proactive decision to suspend all activities for the next two weeks even though Alberta's Chief Medical Officer of Health has not mandated it for our city at this time. Stay safe everyone! #COVID19AB

Good evening Members, In our last communication, we indicated we would be seeking a possible exemption from the new restrictions related to our sport. While we ...have not had any official word from Hockey Alberta as of yet, we have received some information from other organizations that, once confirmed, would not allow us to pursue that avenue. We have been made aware that leagues wanting to be exempt from restrictions would have to be capable of performing daily COVID testing and operate out of an NHL style bubble, in addition to other measures. This is clearly impossible for Minor Hockey Associations and is most likely designed for the upcoming World Juniors in our Province. The City of Medicine Hat, following the advice of AHS, has also made the decision to suspend all group activities currently taking place at all their facilities. The FLC and KInplex will remain open for pre-registration Public skating only. These steps will remain in place for the 3 weeks that the new restrictions require and will be re-evaluated at that time. This is obviously not the news we had hoped to communicate following Tuesday’s announcement, but it is the news that is necessary. We will effectively be shutdown for the next 3 weeks until December 18th, 2020 at least. At that time, AHS and the Government of Alberta will be evaluating the success of these new restrictions and providing further guidance on how we can resume hockey. Our association will take this time to formulate a new Return to Play plan for when we are allowed to resume. We will be looking at all our options while working with Hockey Alberta and the various leagues our Rep Teams play in, to collaborate on the best format for a Return to Play plan. As we likely all know by now, things can change daily in relation to COVID, so we will look to plan for multiple scenarios and prepare as best we can for the uncertainties that lie ahead. We want to sincerely thank all our volunteers who have done their absolute best to allow us to get this far into a season no one could have predicted or planned for. We will need your help and hard work again once we are allowed to get this game we love going! Please do what you can to enjoy this hopefully brief break in our season. Athletes can use this time to work on their individual skills and goals in preparation for a triumphant return to hockey! We look forward to getting everyone back on the ice and we will continue to prepare for any potential situations that may develop. We will continue to update all our members as we receive new information and direction from AHS, the Government of Alberta, and Hockey Alberta. As always, thank you for your understanding and support.
