We don't just build log homes at M & H. We restore, refinish and maintain all log structures old and new. We finished another small chinking project in Valleyview,AB this past week. The type of notching you choose for your home can make a big difference in the look. This dovetail notch we did for a client in Norman Wells, NWT had both dovetail and block notching in the interior to accommodate closets, dome doorways, etc. Dovetails are logs in the trapezoidal shape. They are cut at different lengths and interlocked together. An interesting fact is that this notch predates written history and has been used in Europe for centuries.

The exterior staining season is drawing to a close. This last project involved a lot of sanding. The previous product on these logs had an oil base with a tacky finish and was extremely tough to get off. This beautiful log home on the Sturgeon Lake near Grande Prairie now has a Sansin finish in Champagne. #logfinish #logfinishing #loghomes #cabinliving #cabinlife

Our log garage is coming along. We even found a nice character log with a cat face on it which was cleaned and shaped. This cat face most likely came from a porcupine since it was at least 25ft up the tree. #loggarage #customlogwork #logbuilder #handcrafted #logwork

Though surrounded by smoke and fire, as of last night (Sept 19) General Sherman, the world’s biggest tree by volume, is still standing, as are all the other giant sequoias in Sequoia National Park.

A new build has started in the yard! Approximately 1620sq ft garage. Pad layouts are completed and the bottom round has been set.
