'St. Shott's Sunset' --- Taken Dec 28th, it's hard to believe the weather we had over the holiday break. Not often you see a sunset unencumbered by fog in St. Shott's. Watching the sun dive below the horizon was a glorious sight to witness and was one of the nicest sunsets I saw in 2020. ---

Well, after what seems like an eternity 2020 has reached its end. It goes without saying that it was a tumultuous year for most but it wasn't all bad. In terms of photography this was the year where I decided it would no longer be just a hobby. I'm proud of what I've accomplished and, more importantly, learned in 2020. Here's a slideshow I put together highlighting my favourites from this year. Here's to 2021. May it bring good health and happiness to all. Cheers!

'Safe Harbour' --- I decided to go back and re-edit this image from a few months ago because I felt it had so much more potential. I'm really glad I did. It's now cleaner and less busy with a lot of distractions removed and some added softness versus the heavy clarity I previously applied.

'Winter Wonderland Pt 2' --- Here's another recent shot of a stream near my house. The thin frost and crystallised ice really add to the ethereal feel. ---

'Winter Wonderland' --- I recently set out to see what I could find near my house for a nice little wintery shot. I found this idyllic little stream tucked quietly away with lots of nice rock formations and leading lines. This particular section was long and flat which made for some serious depth and seemed to flow right into the camera. Enjoy! ---

'South Brook Pool' --- So after at least six visits to this location I finally came away with a shot I'm happy with. It had rained the previous night so there's was lots of water. ---

'Bridge to Nowhere' --- Saturday I stopped by Bidgood's Park and this setting was just begging to be photographed. Although it wasn't sunrise or sunset the sunlight was softened by some light clouds and made for this ethereal glow.

'the Farm' --- Saturday morning definitely signified the transition from Fall to Winter. An ever so slight dusting of snow touched the ground and ice crystals appeared on top of the puddles. But Fall wouldn't go away quietly. Everything was lit with lovely golden, dappled light. Truly one of the most gorgeous mornings yet! ---

'Black Rock' --- This past summer we spent some time on the Bonavista Peninsula and this shot was taken during sunset in the beautiful community of Melrose. As the sun was setting in the opposite direction I looked behind me and it was perfectly hitting these rocks and making them glow.

'Wave Over Wave' --- The textures and colours in these rocks caught my eye and I knew I just HAD to get a shot. As the waves relentlessly washed over them and a little bit of sunshine squeezed through the fog the colour and detail popped.

Last weekend as the sun set in Trepassey wind gusts upwards of 100km/h pushed the sea mist up over the hills of the western shore. 'Stark' . What is it about Quidi Vidi that is so magical? The colours? The textures? The sheer ethereal atmosphere? Newfoundland has many amazing settings but none exemplifies our province better than this quaint little village tucked under the arm of the city. 'Powerful Brew' . Yesterday the sea was a force. Waves pummelled the shoreline. I took a spin out to Cape Spear and as I made my way back I saw this waterfall across the way in Freshwater Bay. While it looks like it's crashing on the rocks below the mist is actually from the wind sweeping the spray from the waves. In the foreground is the point just outside Blackhead. It may look close but in actual fact the waterfall was well over a mile away. . #StayHomeYear2020

'Magnificence' One great way to get some awesome shots of the fall colours is to change your perspective. Get down low beneath the branches and close to the fallen leaves or climb up a hill, as I did here, that offers vistas of the treetops. *Taken somewhere off Foxtrap Access Road... #StayHomeYear2020

I'm always trying to expand my photography and not get stuck pumping out the same things over and over. On this one I went for an edit a lot different from what I normally produce. I was going for an 'instagramy-type' look so I applied some colour grading and I think it really gives the image some character. What do you think? Port de Grave, NL Canada #StayHomeYear2020
