The strongest public speakers are those that make the listener feel that they are being spoken to personally. A speech or idea directed at a large group has to avoid specificity by design because it has to work for everyone. But speaking to an individual requires purpose and intent. It requires a deeper knowledge of who you're talking to to be effective. More work, but more power.

Awareness is everything. But there are two types of awareness: Awareness of experience: of how systems usually play out. Awareness of perspective: how the current system is not working. Lack of awareness leads you to either to solve a problem incorrectly, or to not be solving the actual problem altogether. And most people don't have both.

A sign of lack of leadership is when a person or team slows down overtime. A leader therefore, is someone that generates momentum on their own which means everyone should lead. What separates a wise boss from a foolish boss, is not their ability to recognize talant, but to recognize and place momentum.

Don't be afraid of posting the same message twice on social. A good idea is worth talking about again and again.

You can't prove you're the best. But you can prove that you're different. Talking about things like quality, customer service, skill, experience.... and anything else that everyone says they are the best at, is an unwinnable game.... Whether you want to get the job, the promotion, or the sale, you have to really take time to understand what makes you different. #marketing #branding #bedifferent #ottawabusiness

When should you register for HST as a Business? While there is the $30k threshold before you're legally supposed register for HST (In Canada), there are no laws stopping you from registering on day 1 of your business. Here's why you should: Do you want to learn the easy way or the hard way?... Accounting is hard. Why wait until you're overloaded with customers, and mistakes are hard to fix, when you can start figuring it out now while the mistakes are all small? What if someone doesn't buy from me because of price?? Ignore them. Everyone charges HST. If they can't afford to pay taxes on your product, then they can't afford your services. You're ATTRACTING bad, price sensitive customers to buy from you, and DISCOURAGING good customers who are fine with paying taxes on everything they buy. Do you want to advertise that you're a brand new and inexperienced business? IF you're not charging taxes, you're either doing it illegally, or you're so small/new that you don't have to. Both are not ideal for conveying confidence to customers. But what if I don't want to run a big business? If by design you will never make more than the $30k, then sure, wait. But what happens if your business blows up? What happens if it takes off? You're going to waste a lot of time and effort worrying about tax implications instead of capitalizing on your growth. Talk to an accountant I'm just sharing this advice as a fellow business owner because I have seen this question pop up a lot, and it was the right move for me.

Do you know what a CXO is? This is a new one even to me. I realized that when I stopped doing the client work to focus more on my role as CEO at Market Pie, there was a gap that was left. And things were not getting done like they used to.... Tasks were getting done, but things just never seemed to all come together. There was no one with boots on the ground that was really paying attention to HOW things were done. Yes it is everyone's responsibility to do their best work, and the Project Manager makes sure things get done, but someone needs to be accountable to making sure that HOW we do things, are effective. And the person accountable to that needs to be fearless in accountability. Following up with clients, seeking the cold hard truth about the results. They also can't be some big wig 'manager' They need to play in the dirt, and be a battle hardened and experienced practitioner to know how to improve a process. There are many other roles that support getting things done in a company, but these to me are the most important ones to me. #team #orgchart #hr #companyculture
