A fully online school environment can still be a struggle for teens dealing with social anxiety. It's important to let your teen know that what they're feeling is completely normal. If you've been working virtually, it will likely be easy for you to relate if they're feeling isolated or anxious. You've likely heard someone say that we are all our own harshest critic. And sometimes that inner critic can be very loud too. What can you do to silence or at least turn the volume down on that negative voice? It definitely requires some patience and self-compassion, but the very first step is figuring out where that critical voice is coming from. It could originate a parent or teacher who was extremely harsh on you as a child. Once you have a better understanding of where it's coming from, you'll have a better handle on that voice when it pops into your head with a negative comment.
