Perhaps your "someone special" might prefer a treatment with one of the talented practioners in our clinic. The reception staff at Prairie Sky could assist you with such a purchase towards a visit with one of our NDs, or our Nurse Practitioner, Dana Clay. Pop by or call to find out more. You can also connect with one of our associates by contacting them directly if you would like to gift someone a session for massage with Ryan Schaffer or Lisa Mann, SE with Christine Bor...schneck, craniosacral therapy with Elaine Hanson-Loo, or holistic esthetic services with Sam Tran. Speaking of, Sam has some other incredible offers this month that may be enticing to you as you gift yourself a little self-care and pampering in the midst of this holiday season, a peppermint mocha spa facial?? really? what could be more fun at this potentially stressful time of year?

Most extended health insurance plans in both Canada and the United States cover Naturopathic treatments. . Insured patients are encouraged to contact their employer or individual insurance brokers to determine if they are covered and/or to request that their policy be extended to include Naturopathic services if it does not already do so (since Naturopathic Doctors use alternatives to costly techniques and drug therapies, more insurance companies are beginning to investigat...e expanding coverage of this cost-effective treatment method). . . . #naturopathicmedicine #naturopathicdoctor #naturopath #holistichealth #prairieskyhealth See more

Happy Holidays Everyone! . If you missed our monthly newsletter, please consider making these tasty, gluten free, wheat free, nut free, guilt-free cookies to share with your household, or with Santa! . Ingredients:... For the wet ingredients: * 1/4 cup (63 g) natural smooth sunflower seed butter* * 2 tablespoons (25 g) packed brown sugar * 2 tablespoons (30 mL) pure maple syrup * 2 1/2 tablespoons (37.5 mL) coconut oil (room temp) or grapeseed oil** For the dry ingredients: * 6 tablespoons (54 g) raw sunflower seeds * 3 tablespoons (30 g) cassava flour*** * 1 teaspoon (2 g) ground chia seed**** * 1/4 teaspoon baking soda * 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt * 1/3 cup (50 g) dark chocolate squares Directions: 1. Preheat the oven to 350F (180C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. 2. To a large bowl, add the wet ingredients (sunflower seed butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, and oil) and stir until completely smooth. 3. Place the sunflower seeds into a food processor and process for about 40 to 60 seconds until a fine meal forms. You want to process the seeds to as fine a meal as possible without them turning into butter! 4. Add the dry ingredients (ground sunflower seeds, cassava flour, ground chia seeds, baking soda, and salt) to the wet mixture bowl and stir until thoroughly combined. The dough will be very sticky, but this is normal. Chop the chocolate, reserving one heaping tablespoon for later. Stir the remaining chopped chocolate into the dough until combined. 5. Using a 2-tablespoon (30-mL) cookie scoop (or simply a spoon), scoop small mounds of dough onto the prepared baking sheet a few inches apart. There’s no need to flatten the mounds as they’ll spread out during baking. Now, using the chocolate you set aside, press a few chunks into each mound (this just helps the cookies look a bit more chocolaty when baked!). 6. Bake for 10 to 11 minutes (I bake for 10 minutes) for a soft and tender cookie. 7. Remove cookies from the oven and cool directly on the baking sheet for 10 minutes. Using a spatula, gently transfer each cookie (they’ll be very fragile) to a cooling rack for another 10 to 15 minutes.- @ohsheglows See more

Why I love the DUTCH test . Hormonal blood tests can be hard to come by for a variety of reasons. >> issues with accessibility as you may be required to have blood drawn on separate dates within the month, >>your daily hormonal fluctuation is not accurately reflected in your results with a one time sample,... >>the results may be limited etc. . Blood tests won’t measure your cortisol rhythms and estrogen metabolism or provide you a 20 page overview of these systems. Hands down, the DUTCH test is THE most cutting edge, comprehensive, functional medicine hormone test. . Hormonal imbalance can cause a wide range of signs and symptoms depending on which hormones are affected, and in which way the scale is tilted. What are symptoms of a hormone imbalance? -Insomnia -Acne -PCOS -Cervical Dysplasia -Chronic/adrenal Fatigue -Trouble concentrating -Depression -Anxiety -Irritability -Memory loss -Weight gain -Chronic allergies -Bone loss -Irregular periods -Breast tenderness -Hot flashes -Vaginal dryness -Low libido -Heart disease risk -Breast cancer risk . Ok, so some of those symptoms sound familiar What do I do now? Insert the DUTCH test. . These results are instrumental to: * Shed light on any hormonal imbalances you have (adrenals, sex hormones, plus melatonin, B vitamin status, detoxification, neurotransmitters, oxidative stress, etc). * Gear a treatment plan tailored to you, based on your hormone levels and also how you metabolize or break down your hormones. Your treatment plan is all-natural and customized to you. It can involve precise lifestyle medicine which are adjustments in sleep, food, exercise, and stress management. We may find that the use of supplements, herbs, and low-dose bio-identical hormones are right for you. . What does this test involve? It’s easy! It comes in an envelope with little strips to dip in your pee, in the comfort of your home. You dip the strips, let them dry, mail them off. The instructions are very clear. The results will be sent to your practitioner and we create a plan from there. . Send me a DM if this is something you are interested in, or book an appointment online to get started today See more

Whether your - Abdominal pain - Belching - Bloating - Burning... - Constipation - Diarrhea - Gas - & Rumbling . is a symptom of a disorder in the stomach or intestines, or a disorder in and of itself, there is a LOT we can do and the answer may surprise you. . Depending on the situation, bloodwork, imaging, and specialty lab testing may be necessary to paint a clear picture of what is going on. However, in all treatment plans I find my recommendations coming from a place of SIMPLIFYING the routine instead of complicating it. . Some ideas to consider: >>Taking time to chew the food - swallowing air by chewing with the mouth open, talking wile chewing, and gulping down liquids can create excess gas. >>Don’t drink liquids with meals - dilutes the enzymes needed for digestion. >>Restricting certain foods and beverages as they are irritating to the digestive tract: Alcohol, caffeine, gluten, greasy, spicy, or refined & processed foods. Dairy can cause excess mucus formation which results in inadequate digestion of protein in addition to possible lactose intolerance. >>Add in more organic, whole foods - ie: fresh papaya and pineapple are good sources of digestive enzymes, fermented foods support the microbiome. We want to avoid artificial sweeteners and sugar alcohols as they can cause excess gas (check your protein bars, & drinks). Check your ingredient labels! Or better yet, choose foods that do not have food labels. >>Exercise such as brisk walking or stretching aids in the digestive process. >>Drink fenugreek, fennel or peppermint tea as they have anti-spasmodic and other digestive actions. >>Manage stress - Stress can contribute to leaky gut syndrome which is when tiny particles of undigested food normally eliminated in the feces pass through tiny rips in the intestinal lining and get absorbed into the system, causing severe digestive distress. >>Intuitive eating - consider time restricted eating as it can be really beneficial for giving the body enough time to properly digest our meals, and allow for appropriate digestive hormone fluctuation. . : An observational retrospective study conducted in Italy set out to evaluate the impact of antiosteoporotic drugs and calcium/vit...amin D treatments in osteoporosis patients with recent fractures. They included 3475 patients and compared the incidence of subsequent fracture and all-cause mortality. Results: -41.5% of patients did not receive any specific anti-fracture treatment. -Among treated patients (N = 2032), the majority (83.6%) received calcium/vitamin D supplementation. -Over a mean follow-up of 3 years, the risk of subsequent fractures was 44.4% lower in treated patients compared to untreated ones and 64.4% lower in those receiving calcium/vitamin D supplementation compared to osteoporosis treatment only. Keep it simple. My best tip for nutrition, exercise, routines, and even life? Is to keep it simple We all know that fruit and vegetables are incredibly ...nutritious, but how many of us are actually eating the recommended amounts Let’s start there. No need for expensive superfoods and the latest weight loss shake - just eat whole foods! My definition of whole foods is: No ingredient list Straight from the earth Requires minimal processing to be consumed (peeling, cooking, grounding - ie quinoa would be healthier than wheat flour, avocado would be healthier than avocado oil) Is typically found in the periphery of the grocery store When you eat a whole foods diet you don’t need to calculate your calories or make sure you hit your macros Keep it simple. Of course if you have specific health concerns there are further adjustments we can make in your diet to improve your health outcomes - and that’s where a Naturopathic Doctor comes into play But for the general population, a great place to start is to keep it simple #naturopathicmedicine #naturopathicdoctor #naturopathy #healthylifestyle #healthyfood #vegansofig #healthyeating #eatyourveggies #eatclean #foodismedicine #foodisfuel #vegan #veganfood #glutenfreevegan #wholefoodplantbased #plantbased #guthealth #ibd #crohnsandcolitis #pediatricnaturopath #plants #cleaneating #macros #balance #nutrition #hormonebalance #hormoneimbalance #weightloss #healthyweightloss #keepitsimple

. Ladies! Ever notice your skin getting worse when you decide to come off the pill? . You were doing just fine - face is glowing, skin is calm as ever and then you come off the pill and things go downhill .... I’m talking your acne flaring (potentially along with many other unwanted symptoms) - getting red, irritated, and painful lesions, bumpier or dryer texture, with no end in sight?! . It ain’t a coincidence and here’s why: . The pill regulates sex hormone production and in doing so it reduces testosterone, which lowers oil production. Although your skin may improve on the pill, this doesn’t fix acne, it only suppresses it until we take the pill away and realize the disruption that had been there all along. . The pill creates gut inflammation, suppresses healthy hormones, and burdens the liver so it can’t clear our unnecessary hormones. . Your skin is NOT your most vital organ. Your body will want to repair the other systems first that influence blood flow and oxygen levels. Therefore, if we don’t address these organ systems it will take a lot longer for the skin to repair after cessation of birth control. . If coming off birth control has made your skin go CRAZY type YES in the comments if you want me to post about how to deal with this! . . #michellelenawellness #postbirthcontrolsymptoms #naturopathicmedicine #holistichealth #hormonalhealth #acne #holisticacnetreatment
