Oh man, the Rowley girls. I never have more fun in a lesson than I have with these two. May I present, Victoria (left) and Emilia Rowley! These girls are my students of the week. These ladies have music in their DNA and have very discerning taste in music, as well. Victoria delights in bringing me examples of contemporary rule breaker vocalists, just to get me worked up. Emilia can hear a song twice and completely know it. These ladies can sing!!!......and since their Mama taught them how to speak English correctly, their diction is flawless. Love these ladies!!

This week's student of the week is Miss Aliya Giffen! (My youngest student ever!)

I am wrapping up my six week spring voice session next week and I want to recognize my amazing students. This little lady is Aliya Giffen and she is such a delight! She is my youngest student ever! This kiddo is all about music and there are no Disney songs that she does not know. She has been learning to employ acting and emotion in her presentation. She is a faithful practicer with a lovely voice. She is a bright spot in my week. Way to rock this session, Aliya!

I have written a few songs for my Mama over the years but I have never recorded this one. When my mom got her first breast cancer diagnosis, she called me to give me the news. I was so upset and crying and I asked her how she was doing. She said, "Well, when they told me it was cancer, my first thought was....let's rock and roll." Uh, what?? Yep. She is unstoppable and so very beloved. This song is for her because she rocks and rolls. Love you, Mama. Happy Mother's Day Sharleen!!

My student of the week is the lovely Sam Poteet! This little lady has been taking group voice from me for about a year now and she loves to sing! She has a pretty, clear, high voice and can sing with mucho energy! Also, when she sings songs about hope and belonging, I just straight up cry because of what she already moved through in her young life. Love you, Sam. xo

Today I left a full day of lessons to go be the rehearsal vocalist for the Rock of Ages band. I will say, after a day of trying to help other people learn to sing well, it was a form of therapy to get to sing myself for an hour. Plus.... Hair Metal.

3rd voice lesson teaching day held so many revelations. Did you know that indie rockers can sometimes sing opera? Sigh, what a wonderful work day. Today I got to hear Fall out Boy, Sinatra, Paul McClure, Run River North, George Ezra, Celine, Stevie Wonder, Ella, Johnny Mathis, Corrine Bailey Rae, Mandy Moore, Regina Spektor and I even let one of my students talk me into Tay Tay. #ilovemyjob

This morning is our second annual "children lead the music for Christmas" service at Living Faith Fellowship and it is my favourite Sunday of the year. I am so smitten with these kids who love Jesus, music and each other. Once again I know, I have the best job on earth. #ilovemyjob

My Student of the Week, Miss Brielle Poteet! This girl. Brielle has been in a group voice class since early 2015 and is a Clearwater Creative Arts student. She eats up music theory like cereal and keeps discovering more things she is awesome at. In voice, she is studying belting vs. quiet tone, matching tone and harmony and she is busy uncovering her genetically designed ability to sing, duh...she is a Poteet. She also studies cello, guitar from Shaelyn Poteet and is a closet drummer. (Sorry Bri, it's out of the closet now.) Brielle, I'm a huuuuuuge fan of you!

My Student of the Week, Miss Carilee Murphy! Carilee is a Clearwater Creative Arts student and is a new voice student for me this year. I was shocked to hear that she had never had lessons before, once I heard her sing. This girl has more raw talent than most humans are ever born with. Her tone is beyond her years and clear as a bell. She has been studying belting and breath control. Her lesson is music to my ears. :):) So proud of you Carilee, you are a vocal monster (the good kind of monster). Plus, look at her, she is adorable. ;)
