This week wasn’t my best week... But these two stepped it up on so many levels. extra long reading and snuggles each morning yoga led by them... morning dance parties and lots of checking in to see if I’m ok. I’m grateful we have shown them it’s ok to not always be ok, and better yet how to make some one feel special when they need the extra love. I’m taking this as a parenting win. Is today the day you quit? January 19th has been revealed as the day people are most likely to abandon their New Year’s fitness resolutions, according to new data insights from social fitness network Strava. @runnersworldmag Here are some ideas to help you push through that feeling of giving up.... 1. Accountability Partner this year I’ve partnered with my husband, (this morning neither of us were too excited when the 5am alarm went off but research shows that you have a 21% better chance of sticking with it when you have a partner to check in with. 2. Set a goal. Is there an event you have always wanted to participate in? Sign up for it and then train towards it. We are doing a ridiculous squat & pushup challenge #thanksbabe 3. Mix up the exercise routines to keep it interesting. I’m currently alternating my strength training and cardio days on top of the squats 4. Mornings are the best time. If you get it done and over with right away you not only get to reap the benefits of feeling good all day you eliminate the chances of getting distracted by something more enticing. 5. Join a running club or like me @onepeloton I love that my friends and I connect virtually for challenges, push each other, and feel connected through our classes and our goals. 6. The 5 second rule. I asked my kids a big favor today.... I asked them to make today all about listening. Because it wasn’t until my privileged white ass actually starting listening 10 months ago that I really started understanding Racism and how and why it continues to exist. I’m hoping the conversation today includes white privilege and how fortunate we have been and how unfair people of color have had it their whole life and every generation back.... I hope they hear that they were born into a world of acceptance and endless opportunities, and that their friends of color never get the same head start and that needs to change. I asked them to intentionally listen and hold back on wanting to share their opinions and their ideas, and let today be all about hearing the stories & learning how we can do better. I told them I couldn’t wait for them to come home and teach me what today was all about and what actions we can take to make this world a better place. My kids have learned so much from Pink Shirt Day and Orange Shirt Day, I love that today is about raising them up and educating this generation with Black Shirt Day as well. Two conversations this week made me think... The first was with a close friend. I was struggling terribly with something I had done, a knee jerk reaction to a frustrating situation, and feeling the ultimate shame for reacting over responding with grace and she asked if I had done my yoga practice yet for the day? I had not... The second was with a past Yoga instructor I had had after sharing a FB Memory with her about the studio she had taught me at. This memory was fro...m 10 years ago and at a very difficult time in my journey towards motherhood. The conversation was a much overdue thank you. Then I saw this quote on @yogadailyclasses and it got me thinking, yoga in my life has been so much more then movement for me. It’s been a healing journey and continues to bring me healing every day I practice it...just like the oils a natural healing journey every time I use them. How lucky am I to have two major tools I can turn to when things get hard? And not only do they help in the moment they continue to help, heal, and encourage positive growth long after they are used.
