We are looking for meaningful ways to decolonize our way of learning and to give back their teachings." Students in Sipekne’katik First Nation are learning firsthand traditional knowledge, the Mi’kmaq way.

Guess what guys!?! My new boots with Manitobah Mukluks officially dropped today! There are only 300 pairs made! Order here: https://bit.ly/ChristiBelcourt ***... My latest design takes its inspiration from Metis floral embroidery patterns. We Metis are not only known for our flower beadwork, but also our silk embroidery and quillwork. Historically we beaded, embroidered or quilled on hide. Silk embroidery was often done on unsmoked hide like caribou or deer hide. The white colour of the hide was a perfect backdrop for the rich pinks, reds, purples, greens and blues of the silk threads. Often the buttonhole stitch was used, giving Metis embroidery a very unique look. As always I take my inspiration from the land and think about those ancestors who walked before me, creating beautiful wearable works of art and at the same time, creating an artistic legacy for future generations. The Grandmothers of old are always with us. They knew the land, the plants and the medicines as they walked on Mother Earth. My wish for you all is that you will remember your grandmothers are always with you as you walk on your life’s path, and that we can all rise to stand up for Mother Earth and the future generations.
Today is Louis Riel Day! Learn and celebrate the Metis leader, his life and legacy with Rosie.
Here it is!! Yesterday's Metis Flag raising event!! I am so proud of everyone who came together during these uncertain times to ensure our Nation's voice continues!
I'm so honored to be part of this panel! Come hear me talk about the Metis and our material culture such as Moccasins!! "Since 2011, Rock your Mocs has encouraged Indigenous peoples to share their cultural pride and showcase the diversity of Indigenous peoples by sharing stories through the photos of their moccasins. To celebrate the week-long campaign, Indigenous Directions at Concordia University is hosting Rocking Those Mocs: Pride, Strength and Unity. The discussion will include voices and perspectives of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people on how wearing moccasins and regalia empowers nations and individual pride. The discussion will be followed by a Q & A with the panelists"

This is a song that I wrote and performed at Calgary City Hall for National Métis Week which is held annually in November in the week surrounding Louis Riel Day... (Nov 16). Louis Riel Day is observed to remember and honour Riel's leadership and bravery in leading the Métis people of western Canada during the Red River and North-West Resistance. See more
