https://www.facebook.com/events/326755211298485/?active_tab=about We are excited to announce Echoes! Opening at the Joan & Martin Goldfarb Centre for Fine Arts, Echoes presents the work of two contemporary Inuit artists - Laakkuluk Williamson Bathory and Taqralik Partridge. The work involved relate to the idea of an echo, and to nipi - the Innuktut word that best describes sound as it is understood as a translation into English. Echoes of Inuit traditional culture and history... are strongly linked to the identity of Inuit today - as shown in the visuals by both of these artists. The exhibition is curated by urban Inuk Jocelyn Piirainen, with the assistance of our team Mobilizing Inuit Cultural Heritage Project with the Art History Graduate Student Association of York University.

She is a prominent community elder who spent much of her early life living a traditional life on the land. She is an expert seamstress, and has taught many generations how to sew. For the 2015 Mittimatalik Arnait Miqsuqtuit Project, Ruth Sangoya held a series of workshops on sealskin kamik making. This clip was filmed in February of 2015. Here, expert seamstress Ruth Sangoya demonstrates how to attach an instep to a pair of bleached sealskin (naluaq) kamiks.

As we move into the new year, we look back at our research projects and share our achievements through video and image collections. First up is : https://www.instagram.com/p/Brl-75Jn4xg/ Mittimatalik Arnait Miqsuqtuit Collective was founded in January 2015. Our goal is to create a digital archive of sealskin sewing master classes for use by local seamstresses who want to learn the skill. This compilation serves as an introduction to our work and features clips from our fir...st set of sessions in February 2015. That winter we worked with expert seamstresses Ruth Sangoya, Paomee Komangapik, and Koopa Kippomee: three seamstresses who were all very keen to share their skills with younger community members.
