Throwback Thursday . Title: Number Thirty-Five 48x24 - Oil on Canvas .... I painted this one back in 2007, and sold it the same year at the White Rock Gallery. It was entered into The Artist’s Magazine’s The Year’s Best Art competition and placed third in the still life category. Pretty darn exciting back then! I love painting oranges and I couldn’t resist the tease of not being able to fully see the 3 under the orange peel. . If you own this piece, or you know the person who does, give me a shout! When I first started painting I did landscapes for many years, then I did mostly still life for all the years I was in galleries. Late 2019 I opened my own online store, and declared 2020 the year of Landscapes. Despite the craziness of 2020 I stuck to my guns and did landscapes for the whole year. . If you get a chance to read my first blog post of 2021 you can read about how I have declared 2021 the year of Anything Goes! Landscapes, still life, florals, animals, pets, he...ck...maybe even an abstract or two! When you’re in the gallery system you get known for a certain style or subject matter. For me that was still life. When you’re flying solo it’s easier to explore every subject matter. I'm pretty dang excited about that! . Now that I’ve had a nice little break from doing still life I’m excited to add them back to my repertoire. And on that note...here is a little painting that I started in 2019 and has been sitting at 80% done for the past year. I picked it up again this week and it’s ready to go. We all have at least one Florence Nightingale in our life right now. Every nurse. Every doctor. Every front line worker. Even if we have not required the services of these amazing human beings - chances are we know someone who has. In this time of Covid we are all a little uncertain, a little scared, a little stressed as we continue to social distance. While we are staying as safe as we can these courageous women and men are on the front lines - often having to break the 6 f...oot rule - all while caring for the people we love so dearly. They arent doing it without fear, yet they are doing it. For us...and we are grateful. In honour of International Nurses Day (May 12th - Florence Nightingales birthday), and International Nurses week, I am giving away "The Other Side" - a 5x7" mini oil painting. The title says it all...we will get there. This painting will be given to a nurse that will be nominated by you. Entry is one step, as follows. Go to my Facebook Page, or my Instagram Page and in the comments section tag the nurse(s) that you want to nominate.
