MID SUMMER'S art festival 21.01.2022

PLEASE SHARE THIS GOOD NEWS! January 31, 2022 Dear Loyal Visual Arts Vendors:... Re: Mid Summer’s art festival 2022 We hope you are all keeping safe and healthy during this ongoing pandemic but we feel that since many public events are taking place now, we can plan for a Mid Summer’s art festival this year. Our committee has endorsed the idea but will definitely be flexible should another wave hit our province which would prevent the Festival from happening. We will be closely monitoring the Public Health recommendations but thought we would like to give you a heads up so you can start planning your summer accordingly. The Festival will be held on July 30, 2022, if all goes well. Registrations will go out to past vendors in early spring. Thank you for your ongoing patience and consideration while we work through what continues to be a very unusual time. Sincerely, Julie Bedel, Chairperson Mid Summer’s art festival Photo credit: @Andre Furtado

Please check out Pocket Park in Fort Qu'Appelle for the completed Anniversary Project in recognition of 25 Years of Mid Summer's Art Festival in the Valley! The awesome tree carving and recently landscaped surrounding was done by MSAF and Fort Qu'Appelle Communities in Bloom. The dedication plaque reads: "This tree carving was commissioned by Mid Summer’s Art Festival to commemorate celebrating art and community in the Valley for 25 Years (1993-2019). The carving, done by Doug Lingelbach, is titled Outa Love in memory of his grandparents Gus & Edith Lingelbach. See if you can find the sunflower, the hummingbird, the ladybug.and many other treasures of nature."

April 24, 2021 Dear Loyal Vendors: Re: Mid Summer’s art festival 2021 As promised, we said we would get back to you before the end of April as to whether our Festival in Fort Qu’Appelle would be a go. We have done some research, studied the COVID public health rules and our committee has decided to err on the side of caution this year by cancelling for 2021. ... We thank you for your patience in waiting for this decision and hope to see you back for 2022. I am hoping that the time away will give us all time to get back at ‘er with renewed vigor and spirit!!! We can’t wait to see you all again next year! In the meantime, stay safe and let the creative juices flow Sincerely, Julie Bedel, Chairperson On behalf of the Committee Mid Summer’s art festival

Marie Donais Calder - Author Marie and her husband, Darcy, live in Estevan, SK. Marie and Darcy work together to promote and highlight the good in our world. Watch for Marie’s new line of children’s picture books, which complement the messages of goodness in the 25 novel Other Side series. Marie is now working on a non-fiction book about 21 airmen who perished in a plane crash just outside of Estevan in 1946 while serving with the RCAF. These men have been virtually forgotten until Marie and a small committee including Lester Hinzman commissioned a sculptor(Darren Jones) to memorialize them in a sculpture entitled, Forever In The Clouds. This sculpture was featured at the recent Moose Jaw Airshow.

Pure Blyss and Fair Trade - Connie Sedlovitch Pure Blyss Boutique has been in business since 2011, always keeping the welfare of our clients and staff as a top priority. We believe that doing business should be beneficial to all parties involved. We make sure that our producers and artisans overseas are paid fair wages (in their local context) and have a safe and healthy work place to do their job! We have always conducted our business in a fair and responsible manner. Each y...ear we attend approximately fifty trade fairs where we develop personal relationship with many rural and urban participants. Our trips also give us the opportunity to get first hand feedback from our shoppers so that we can make any necessary changes if required. We are proud of the longstanding relations we share with our friends. The culture and traditions in many areas in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta are very important to us. . By supporting rural communities we provide funky, colorful, affordable clothing and accessories to people in their own environment. We bring the boutique to them and assist them with styles, colors and sizing with items from different places in the world in the comfort of their own communities. In many cases this facilitates their lives immensely as there is no need to travel from their own villages, towns and farms, taking away or spending time away from their families and children. This has been especially beneficial to mothers with small children who can bring their children to the shows. Our investment in the wellbeing of our friends in rural communities goes beyond environment. Since we started doing business in Regina about 6 years ago, we have been community driven attending various senior complexes, health retreats and fashion shows. We are still hoping to expand our horizons. Pure Blyss provides Regina with a little piece of culture from Thailand, Nepal India, and Indonesia. Pure Blyss has joined the Fair Trade movement in an effort to promote a sustainable and global economic system where purchasing and production choices are made with everyone’s wellbeing in mind. By working as a team with our suppliers overseas, we can create a world where everyone has viable options to meet their economic needs. By joining the Fair Trade movement, we are joining forces with other business owners who choose to run their business in an ethical manner. We hope that this will bring more awareness to the importance of a Fair Trade environment for all producers and for all producers and work as a catalyst for other businesses to adapt a Fair Trade business policy. By wearing Pure Blyss Clothing and Accessories you are helping to support fair wages and promote safe working environments to our friends and producers in these third world countries. Please tell your friends to support us so we can continue to support these countries and people. See more

Jenny Ditter - Pets Jenny’s Bow and Meow has been a vendor at Mid Summers Festival for MANY years. I’ve been in the Regina Farmers Market for 26 years and the Saskatoon Farmers market for 18 years. My treats have no additives, preservatives, dyes or colors. Only the best of pure ingredients I use. I sew a full line of collars, leashes, reversible pet scarfs, coolies, neck ties and bow ties, water bowls and also lots of items for Cats. I’ve always made team sports scarfs... for the dogs, but now I have matching BBQ aprons for the pet owners that matches the dogs sport scarfs. The coolies that I make with keep the dogs body temp down, especially for this cottages that don’t have air conditioning. I look forward to seeing everyone out at Mid Summers Festival

Byrna Barclay Not a law firm. Byrna Barclay, Annette Bower, and James Trettwer are a trio of writers available to pitch their tent at festivals, give public readings, major addresses at conferences or meetings of organizations and groups, and offer workshops on creative writing. Having enjoyed meeting crowds and selling their award-winning books at the Fort Qu’Appelle Arts Festival and the Regina Beach Arts Festival, they are now reaching out, wanting to extend their visits t...o other parts of the province. Byrna Barclay The sequel to House of the White Elephant, which won Best Fiction in the 2016 Inaugural Whistler/Tidewater Awards, Second Cousins Once Removed is Byrna Barclay’s 12th publication. Beginning with winning the Saskatchewan Culture and Youth First Novel Award for Summer of the Hungry Pup, Barclay has won many literary and volunteer awards, culminating in her province’s highest honour, the Saskatchewan Order of Merit. Her novel, The Forest Horses, won the John V. Hicks manuscript award. Having drawn on family myths and her maternal Swedish heritage in her Livelong novels, short stories, and having turned to her paternal ancestry and the story of her great-grandfather, Lewis William Hutchinson, a judge in the Court of Small Causes during the 1867 Indian Fight for Freedom, she completes the Livelong Quartet with Second Cousins Once Removed. An advocate for the arts, Barclay has been president of the Saskatchewan Writers Guild twice, President of Saskatchewan Book Awards, The Canadian Mental Health Association in Saskatchewan, and Chairperson of the Saskatchewan Arts Board. Having been a guest lecturer at universities in Canada and the U.S.A., even on board the Oceanic tour to Russia, she is available to conduct workshops, readings, book signings and visits to book clubs
