We have installed 2 basketball nets on the upper rink for use by our young members. These nets are adjusted to the lowest position possible and cannot be changed. That is the good news. The bad news is that with yesterday's provincial annoucements Basketball, Tennis and Pickleball become prohibited on May 10th unless participating members are all from the same household. We are reviewing how the expanded restrictions will impact our operation and should be able to publish our operating shedule by this weekend.

Rowboats and Paddleboats have been launched and are available for use by members. Due to COVID however, the following guidelines are in effect: Since social distancing cannot be accommodated when using our watercraft, only members of a common household may use our watercraft. Unfortunately, this means guests and/or other members not of the same household cannot share watercraft.... Users must provide their own life jacket since we cannot properly sanitize jackets between each use. Watercraft, oars and paddles are considered high touch surfaces and are not being sanitized. Hand sanitizer stations have been set up on the dock and members are encouraged to bring and use their own sanitizer wipes.

Members of the Calgary Fire Department Water Rescue Unit, Stations 3, 6 and 30 were at the lake earlier today to recover our tractor which fell through the ice in December, 2020. The recovery was conducted as a training exercise allowing CFD members to practice their skills responding to real emergency situations. The location of the tractor was known and it was resting on the lakebed upright in 24 feet of water. Divers attached air bags which were carefully inflated to ge...ntly raise the tractor to the waters surface. From its raised location it was pulled towards shore to the point where the shoreline drops steeply. It was then winched onto the beach by City Wide Towing who loaded and removed the tractor. There was no visible evidence on the waters surface of fluids that may have leaked from the tractor during this operation or beforehand. Spill kits were on site and one absorbent cloth was used along the shoreline which did collect a trace amount of hydrocarbons which was likely due to hydraulic fluid residue on the surface of the hydraulic couplings. We have collected samples of the lakebed sediment from the tractors location for testing. Thank you to the Calgary Fire Department for participating in the recovery of this tractor. We can now safely turn on the waterfalls. See more

Due to weather related challenges and to ensure that we can provide residents with a safe and healthy experience, the park will be open for tobogganing only on December 22nd. Looking forward to December 23rd and 24th, we hope to be able to welcome you for limited skating and tobogganing activities. We will do our best to provide skating as soon as possible. Regarding Christmas Day, several factors have impacted our operational resilience and made it necessary for us to make... an exceedingly difficult decision regarding our holiday schedule. We regret to announce that the park will not be open on Christmas day this year. Given current circumstances, we do not have the resources required to deliver a user experience that is consistent with our standards for your safe enjoyment of our facilities. We know that this is deeply disappointing for many of you who include time at the Lake as part of your holiday traditions. We are sorry that we cannot share in your Christmas day celebrations. Our amended holiday hours are as follows: December 24th 9:00 am to 8:00 pm December 25th closed December 26th 9:00 am to 9:00 pm December 31st 9:00 am to 8:00 pm January 1st Noon to 8:00 pm Sincerely, The Board of Directors and Management of Midnapore Lake
