November has brought a lot of changes for us at MYR. We are sad to say goodbye to an amazing midwife @amanda.sorbara. You have made a difference in so many lives! You will be missed! A little note from Amanda: Thanks to all my past clients at MYR... After 13 wonderful years working as a midwife with Midwives of York Region I am sad to be moving on and to leave all the wonderful people in our community that I have had the honour to work with. Working as a midwife I have the wonderful privilege to share a unique time in the lives of many families. To everyone I have worked with: thank you for trusting me, thank you for sharing your stories, your challenges, your joys and tears. My heart is full, I wish I could hug you all. Love and blessings, Amanda Sorbara See more

In her own words... My experience with York Region Midwives was quite the journey to say the least. I have nothing but the upmost respect for these ladies and I can’t thank my team enough. At 32 weeks we saw baby was frank breech on an ultrasound so I recruited the troops to help baby turn (chiro, osteo, spinning babies, acupuncture). At 36 weeks baby was still breech so we started to discuss a plan. My desired home birth was not an option and I opted out of an ECV so I was ...booked in for a c-section. I had my first baby at home and my heart ached at the thought of having surgery. We checked in on baby weekly and he remained stubbornly breech. I started to do research on breech babies and found that it was really just a variation of normal and that many breech babies could be born vaginally quite successfully. However, it’s a transfer of care and not many OB’s today offer breech vaginal birth. I expressed my desire for options to my midwife team and sure enough they provided me with options. Dr. Heather Edwards had experience with breech and agreed to see me. Together we decided that I was a good candidate for a breech delivery. I was ecstatic to be given the opportunity to birth my baby vaginally and that my midwives truly advocated for me to have the birth experience I wanted, although modified. I was induced on September 24th when Dr. Edwards was on call and although it was a very intense experience physically and emotionally we got to welcome our baby boy bum first, just how he planned to greet us. I had an incredible team that helped me keep pushing forward from Dr. Edwards, the nurses, my husband, and of course my amazing midwives, Jacqueline and Karey. I will forever remember that day and what it took to get there, but what I’m most grateful for is that my voice was heard and supported. #breechbirth #breechbaby #breech #breechbirthwithoutfear #breechbirthisnormal #advocacy #informedchoices #midwifesupport #supportiveobgyn #teamwork #bumfirst

Today is pregnancy and infant loss awareness day. If your life has been touched by pregnancy or infant loss this event is a beautiful way to join others in remembering these little ones. When it comes to early losses often those affected suffer silently and alone. It’s time to break the silence and the stigma so no one has to grieve without support. ... Today, we take the time to honour the little ones who left too soon and the parents who grieve their loss. #infantlossawareness #griefjourney #griefsupport #grievetogether #infantlossawarenessmonth #ihavefootprintsonmyheart #pregnancyloss #babyloss #miscarriagewareness #loss #stillbornstillloved #iam #rainbowbaby

Can you handle the cuteness?!? What a precious bundle! Thank-you so much to Izza’s mommy for sharing such kind words regarding her experience with #midwivesofyorkregion. I had an amazing first pregnancy experience with Team 1 comprised of Edie, Sally Kaitlynn. They were all equally great, professional, caring and super supportive. From the minute I got pregnant until my postpartum it was like having extended family members by my side who were experts, knowledgeable and c...ould answer all the questions I had. Appointments in the clinic were great as I never felt rushed was always provided excellent service from the minute I walked in to when I left. I would highly recommend this place to everyone looking for midwifery service! #midwife #midwives #babies #birth #cutenessoverload #cutebabies #icantwiththecuteness #labourandbirth #labouranddelivery #canadianmidwives #mothers #empoweredbirth #empweredpregnancy #babylove

So much love for our precious babies and mamas It was our pleasure to care for @tulkamania and her kind words warm our hearts. The dedication and care the midwives at midwives of York provide is top notch. Very professional, yet like family all at once. Having experienced both an OB and a Midwife during my two pregnancies I will choose midwife every time. They care for the pregnancy yes, but most importantly they care for mom, you don’t feel invisible. The postpartum car...e is essential and more women need this. I wish it lasted for the first year. But 6 weeks is something to be grateful for. Jacqueline is forever a part of our lives now and we can’t thank her enough for all she has done for us. October is pregnancy and infant loss awareness month. Statistics say 1 in 4 pregnancies end in loss. This is a significant, yet it’s a topic that is rarely discussed. This month we want to be open to discuss loss. The more we talk about it, the more we make those affected feel less alone. ... Every Child Matters Photo re-share from @morning.star.designs The annual Orange Shirt Day on September 30th opens the door to global conversation on all aspects of Residential Schools. It is an opportunity to create meaningful discussion about the effects of Residential Schools and the legacy they have left behind. A discussion all Canadians can tune into and create bridges with each other for reconciliation. A day for survivors to be reaffirmed that they matter, and... so do those that have been affected. Every Child Matters, even if they are an adult, from now on. Quote from www.orangeshirtday.org #orangeshirtday #everychildmatters

Placentas truly are a magnificent organ, sustaining life in the womb as they do.
