We are THRILLED to share that your MOMH midwives got their first dose of the COVID vaccine yesterday! In between home visits, Hillary (looking super excited!) got her shot at Higdon Hall. Ashley's camera failed just at the key moment but This vaccine helps us protect our clients and keeps us safer. #ShotOfHope Pregnant clients are eligible for the vaccine!! Us midwives will be discussing individual risks and benefits in the coming appointments. We continue to follow guidance from the SOGC, NACI, Health Canada and our College of Midwives.

I want to wish a warm welcome to the newest midwife joining the MoMH team! Hillary Johnstone has joined Midwives of Medicine Hat as of September 1st! Here is a little more info about the newest member of our Medicine Hat midwifery community: My name is Hillary Johnstone and I joined Midwives of Medicine Hat in Fall of 2020. I received my Bachelor of Health Sciences with Honours in Midwifery from Ryerson University in 2019; following graduation I worked at a busy downtown Tor...onto practice with a diverse and wonderful clientele. Prior to becoming a midwife, I completed a combined Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary in 2011. I worked as a registered nurse in both pediatric and neonatal care units where my love for family-centred care grew, and in 2016 I moved to Toronto to complete my midwifery training. Coming from nursing to midwifery, I fell in love with home birth and the de-medicalizing of the birth process; I find my nursing experience compliments my midwifery knowledge in many ways to help create a safe space for home birth or hospital birth. My goals as a midwife are to help you make the best, informed choices for your family and to maintain safety for you and your baby. I particularly enjoy helping parents navigate the postpartum period and troubleshoot feeding issues (though catching the baby is pretty amazing, too!!). When I’m not midwifing, I’m adventuring with my Golden Retriever, Gus. I also enjoy cross-country skiing, camping, and cheering on my favourite basketball team, the Toronto Raptors.
