KILN LOADED AGAIN! FIRING #2 TO START IN AM. FINGERS CROSSED!
Well I guess the kiln gods gave me a. Kiln lost the top element during the firing (an hour before completion). So now the wiring needs to be fixed/replaced, Joe is working on it now so will soon know how bad it is and how long it will take to fix. Then will try again. (sigh). Hope things will still turn out - refiring can be tricky. Will keep you posted.
Finally ready for a Glaze firing. Will be loading the kiln in the morning. This was a long, long process. Did a lot of experimental stuff both in making and in glazes but had some glazing issues along the way. Really have to depend on the kiln gods on this one. Hope to post some successes in a couple of days.
Results of my glaze experiments. A couple will definitely be made in a bigger batch but a bit more testing needed. Also making a couple of butter dishes and the 3rd pic is showing some of my work since Christmas. Doing more slab hand building - it is slower than the wheel but I had a few projects I wanted to try. Still need a few more pieces before I do a bisque fire.
Chemistry anyone? LOL! Time to try some different glazes and top up one of my favourites. For the sample glazes I make 200 gram samples hence the little jewellery scale you see. Accuracy in the amount of each ingredient is really important. Will test each glaze on the 3 types of clay I use. Recording results is important. Of the dozens of glazes have tested I only have a couple I like and use.
