Posted with permission of the owner. I have so much to say about this, but I’ll keep it short and as nice as possible. Your horses NEED to be trimmed on a regular basis! Whether you have a farrier do it, or you take it upon yourself to learn how to do it. I don’t care which method you use or whether it’s a horse, mini, donkey, mule etc. GET THOSE FEET TRIMMED. This case is 6 MONTHS between trims, when it should be closer to 6 weeks. Plain and simple, if you don’t know, ask. The third photo is a front foot after initial trimming. It still has many more sessions to go before it’s properly corrected. This is all I will say. If you have any questions please DM me. #farrierlife #overgrowth

A quick announcement about operations during the COVID-19 outbreak. I’d like to inform everyone, that I am still available and I will remain in operation while I can. We don’t know for sure how long this will last and your horses still need to be cared for. However, in light of the situation, I am implementing the following precautions. 1. Only the owner or one designated handler may be present with the horse. 2. Payment by etransfer only. If you are unsure of how to ma...ke a transfer, I’d be happy to guide you through it. 3. If your horse can be cross tied rather than held, it would be much preferred. 4. Please allow a half hour window after your designated appointment time for me to arrive. I will be taking extra time to clean and/or sterilize equipment. 5. And most important. If you have travelled, have been near anyone who has travelled, are sick, experiencing symptoms, or any other reason we are being told. Then please, self quarantine for 14 days. We will take care of your horse(s) at a later date. We are ALL in this together. Let’s all try to do our part to beat this. A sincere thank you, Your friendly neighbourhood farrier, Mike Gadke

Last April I was called to a horse who’s feet were in serious need of work. Fast forward approximately 9 months and we are still battling a small crack on each foot, however, considering that we didn’t utilize the support of a shoe, the feet are shaping up nicely and the horse herself is quite comfortable. Second photo is from April 2019 #farrierlife #nofootnohorse #hoofrescue

And I will see all of my appreciated and valued customers on their next appointments! Thank you to all who have brought this to my attention! Stay warm out there. Mike

Now here’s a great way to get your toes wet with Mountain Trail. Well technically only the horse should get it’s toes wet, but you know what I mean! Get out and give it a go!

Gadke Forge & Farrier Services 09.10.2019

Thank you to Tracey La Fortune Derosbie at Dragonfly Stable for hosting an interesting and informative clinic on International Mountain Trail! The clinician, Kelly Chapman, was very involving, observant and attentive. If you’re looking to try something new or if you’re already a fan of mountain trail courses. Head on out to Dragonfly Stable and support a new event and local group! I didn’t get a lot of good pictures, but I know Tristin Jarratt, the event photographer, got some great footage!

Gadke Forge & Farrier Services 24.09.2019

What a great night! Thank you to the Algoma Pony Club for hosting this clinic. I hope everyone who attended learned a little some something. There were some great questions thrown at me! And everyone was awesome at the shoe pulling simulation. I hope to do this again soon!

I would like to extend a huge personal thank you to Bar River Rodeo’s host, Dave Pollari, for the excellent work on the arena footing. It was put to the ultimate test after a flash storm this weekend and held its own for the rest of the day. I’d also like to give a shout out to all of the generous sponsors that make this club a possibility. Some of which you can see behind me in the photo. Thank you to all!

Gadke Forge & Farrier Services 29.07.2019

A good article to read in your spare time. It’s very easy to overlook how overall health and care of a hoof can affect joints, especially of the lower limb. https://thehorse.com/110605/hooves-helping-joints/

Gadke Forge & Farrier Services 11.07.2019

Come on out to Great Lakes Honda August 2nd for the basic hoof care clinic hosted by the Algoma Pony Club and presented by yours truly!! It should be a fun and informative evening that will have a little bit of something for everyone, whether you’re brand new to the horse world or a veteran! I’ll cover topics like, what to have in a hoof care kit, what to look for and when to call the Farrier, safety, basic anatomy and function of the hoof and lower limb, types of shoes and ...their uses etc. There will also be interactive portion on how to pull a shoe in an emergency. Come on out have some fun, learn a few things and meet some great people or reunite with friends! All while supporting a wonderful new addition to the Canadian Pony Club. https://m.facebook.com/events/1959486644096306?__referral_info_referrer_type=page&__referral_info_mechanism=unknown

Happy National Farriers Week to all my friends and colleagues!

Gadke Forge & Farrier Services 27.05.2019

ATTENTION!!! We are experiencing a longer than usual dry spell. Through my travels, I’ve noticed that many horses are presenting with dry, brittle hooves. Some worse than others. So please, if you have 2 minutes to spare, slap some moisturizer or hoof oil on them, especially if they are shod. This will help to keep their feet moisturized and will help keep shoes tight and extend the shoes’ lifespan. If you don’t have hoof oil, coconut oil can be effective as well, but a good ...hoof conditioner should be used in the long run. Other ways to help your pasture Prince/princess are: -Good nutrition. -Availability of salt and hydration -Overflowing the trough so they have to soak their feet while drinking. -Regular trimming or calling the Farrier when needed and at first signs of trouble. -Allowing a good amount of turn out in a grassy area. Have a great summer everyone, let’s all pray for some rain soon! ~your friendly neighbourhood farrier ~ Mike

The minis walking off into the light as if through heavens gate. A fitting tribute to little Palmer. Rest easy little guy.

Gadke Forge & Farrier Services 21.04.2019

Another successful trim on this giant! And the 1 year old (not pictured) that’s bigger than a regular sized quarter horse, was an angel too!

Gadke Forge & Farrier Services 10.04.2019

Sure..... why not?

Gadke Forge & Farrier Services 29.03.2019

I get the questions all of the time. What should I feed my horse? How much should I feed? What will make their coat better? What will help their feet? When should I feed grain? Etc. Etc. I do my best to help, but concerning nutrition, my knowledge only goes so far. For those of you out there with these kinds of questions. Solo is the place to be this wednesday at 5:00 PM. Grab some apps, meet some new friends, learn from A Purina certified nutritionist and support a great, budding club at the same time.

Gadke Forge & Farrier Services 12.03.2019

Unlike the photo, laminitis and founder are no joke! We all have those horses/ponies that are licking their lips staring at that lush spring grass. But remember. New spring growth and grass in the early morning has a very high sugar content. Do your best to limit exposure to these, especially if you have that horse that gets fat on air. That’s not to say they can’t have any, but while I love seeing your smiling faces, I’d rather see them during our regular visits and not while I’m handing you the bill after treating you poor foundered pony. Stay safe this season and enjoy the weather everyone! Disclaimer: this is not my horse...

Gadke Forge & Farrier Services 04.03.2019

No offence to the pony/mini owners out there, but I’ve never seen a more appropriate comic strip than this. If you disagree, talk to my knee caps...

This piece stands approximately 26 tall and features hand forged steel as well as a reclaimed wood base from a local barn. I like to think that I closely achieved the likeness of a walleye. Although this was given as a donation, (congrats Jodie and Mel) please call text or PM for a quote if you’d like a specific species of fish for your mantle. This type of piece can also be wall mounted if desired.
