Marsh marigolds of the Buttercup Family, is another of my favorite spring wildflowers> They are found in wet areas, in marshes, moist woods and even ditches. Th...ey brighten up the landscape that is still very much monotone in color at this point. I am starting to photograph for my next book about Lake Winnipeg. While I have traveled to many different parts of the lake, I look forward to making new discoveries along the lake. I also have a large collection of images from the lake from which I will be sifting through as I select images to lay out in the book. Lake Winnipeg is the sixth-largest freshwater lake in Canada and it was once part of the much larger Glacial Lake Agassiz. By size, Lake Winnipeg is one of the World's TOP 20 largest freshwater lakes. #matlock #manitoba #canada #wildflowers #spring #lakewinnipeg See more

I went for a walk in the Seine River Forest this morning before the crowds started. I was looking for the bright new spring foliage on the trees and shrubs. I w...as initially thinking color but decided it would be best in Infrared B&W. I particularly like the dark shadows and finding order in the chaos. Thank you kindly to everyone who attended our 'Fireside Chat' yesterday. It was fun for me and colleague Don Johnston to chat and reminisce about our experience...s photographing the Sudbury Reclamation efforts over the years. Thank you to Amber Mac for hosting this wonderful event and to Jessica Trepanier and Morgan Murphy from SmithCon for organizing the event for 'This Is Mining'. My parents purchased our family cottage on Tilton Lake just within the Sudbury City Limits back in 1969. At that time, there was very little activity in the water due to the acidic nature of the water. Over time however, we saw loons and other wildlife return. The image below is one I made years ago of the view from our cottage looking east into a sunrise. My father loved trees and he planted this red pine as a seedling and we watched it grow for many years. Having been raised in the back country of Markstay, nature was very much in his blood as it is for me. He loved his cottage and he could never spend too much time there. Even though we sold the family cottage, this scene still brings back wonderful memories of my youth. Even after I moved out West, I returned often sharing new experiences with my own little family.

I just delivered the InDesign file of the layout as well as the high res photographs for my latest book 'Lake of the Woods - A Gem in the Canadian Shield'. I a...m very grateful to the team at Vidacom for this opportunity to publish yet another large body of my work. Elizabeth Campbell (Elizabeth Campbell Books) of Kenora, Ontario has written most of the text for what will be my 18th book. The attached photo from Sioux Narrows Provincial Park will be featured on the front cover; the photograph was created at dawn a few minutes after I slid onto the foreground rocks and got completely drenched! And it was cold! I am hopeful that the book will be released sometime this year! Already, 2021 is looking brighter than 2020! #lakeofthewoods #ontario #bookpublishing #books #vidacompublications #vidacom #siouxnarrowsprovincialpark #elizabethcampbellbooks Elizabeth Campbell Books See more

Temperatures dropped to more seasonal numbers for Winnipeg yesterday and I took advantage of that to create a few window frost images. Closeups such as these a...re very demanding in terms of technique. I also added a cooler version- not sure which I prefer yet. #winnipeg #manitoba #canada #windowfrosting #windowfrost #closeups #macrophotography #macro #winter #windows #pattern See more

Yesterday morning I returned to the same area as last night hoping for sun. Clouds on the horizon blocked the rising sun for the first half hour or so. Because ...the humidity was so high, the frost hung on all night but the wind was blowing and created quite a windchill. I searched for different subjects and found this beautifully shaped specimen along a country road just south of the flood way. I resorted to shooting at ISO 1600 to make sure the image would record sharp against the blowing wind - and it did. These types of weather conditions are typically short lived and occur a few times each winter season. I enjoy them when I can. #GrandePointe #manitoba #Canada #hoarfrost #frost #winter #sunrise #farming #trees #prairies #winnipeg See more

Late yesterday afternoon, I visited one of my favorite trees, a mere 15 minutes from my house. I arrived 10-15 minutes before the sun set below the prairie hori...zon to witness a splendid display of pink light upon the still very heavy hoarfrost that covered much of the landscape yesterday. The hoarfrost remained overnight. #plainscottonwood #hoarfrost #winter #trees #prairies #sunset #grandepointe #manitoba #canada See more

First post of 2021. Needed a little break from social media. It was chilly and a little windy but the heavy fog and hoarfrost that covered the landscape made for a delightful morning to be in Birds Hill Provincial Park. #manitoba #canada #winter #hoarfrost #fog #2021
