Mike Long

Quite a transformation really, rather inexpensively. The homeowner Loves the new eating bar!

Mike makes my frames for my art, which is suuuuuuper handy! I used to have a pretty standard size because that's all I could find, but now I have the freedom to make what I want. This last piece is quite deep. I require shadow boxes to accommodate all these huge pieces I insist on using! The inside frame is anywhere from an inch deep to three inches (so far!) and my frames are anything I need them to be.... We just met Mandy from The Switchback Trading Post in Weymouth. What a whipper snapper she is! Soon my artwork will be available at The Switchback! Mike will be offering custom framing and some other little ditties he's been working on!

Mike met Molly after a 100-year storm had flooded all kinds of homes around the city. He replaced her basement after the flood damage had been mitigated. She had us back to build her a garage, fix the retaining wall along her driveway, remodel her kitchen, build a utility shed in the back yard. I think she liked us! We did hit it off and we’re friends to this day.... The plan was to build a garage next to the house with a walkway in between. The walkway had a gated entrance from the driveway, a lighted cobblestone walkway, covered, with two skylights. The garage was constructed atop a concrete slab on grade and therefore, could not legally be attached to the house in any way. The building inspector noted that he was impressed with how they looked like they were attached but the garage was in fact it’s own stand alone structure. In the kitchen, we poked a hole in the wall between the kitchen and living room. What she lost in uppers along that wall, she gained in base cabinets that wrapped around three quarters of her kitchen. Double what she had prior. A few years later we had heard that a car had careened down their street and collided with our retaining wall. Molly was so happy to report that the wall received no damage. Wall 1, car 0.

This cottage, yes, this is a cottage, started out as a 1000 sq ft building. We were tasked with raising the cottage to add a full basement, a 5000 sq ft addition and change the roof line of the original cottage. It’s cladded in Hardie Board, an excellent choice for this cottage as the elderly owners wanted a maintenance-free exterior. Inside, Mike made fully custom cabinets, an entertainment centre, and a wrap-around mantel for the stone fireplaceall from rough-cut Honduran Mahogany. What a great project! It was finished off with this amazing deck and staircase.
